Chinese President Xi Jinping recently concluded his tour of Southeast Asia, visiting Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam in an effort to bolster support for China amidst the ongoing trade war with the United States. As President Donald Trump continues to impose heavy tariffs on Chinese goods, Beijing has retaliated by implementing levies of its own on American products.
With tensions between the two economic powerhouses escalating, China appears to be preparing for a prolonged battle with the US. The country has taken measures to support its economy and has even cut off the supply of essential minerals to the US. Despite mounting pressure, President Xi shows no signs of backing down, signaling that China is in it for the long haul.
In a recent interview with Alex Capri from the National University of Singapore’s Business School, DW News learned that China is positioning itself as a reliable and stable trade partner amid the uncertainty brought on by the trade war. Capri emphasized that China is playing the long game, strategically weathering the storm in the face of President Trump’s aggressive tactics.
As the trade war continues to impact global markets, it remains to be seen how both countries will navigate the challenges ahead. With China appearing to stand firm in its resolve, the question of whether time is on China’s side in this trade war lingers. DW News will continue to provide updates on the evolving situation between China and the US.

Hard to Say.
Both take massive Damage over Time here.
But China likely has the Advantage if this drags on.
China has prepared for this for Years.
And as an Dictatorship they have way more Suppression to keep the Population in line despite hardships.
The US is unprepared and People have way more Voice when it comes to complaining about Hardships.
Worse is. Trump Isolated the US.
At this Point. The EU helping the US is completely out of the Question.
So China needs not worry about also losing the EU Trade.
And while the EU is unlikely to openly or directly Help China.
The EU is likely going to at least increase Trade with China which will at least Partially Offset the Damage for China.
Australia already showed this with their Beef Deal as well.
The former Allies of the US will now not Support the US against China.
But rather make Deals with China to effectively take over as much of the US Trade as possible.
US Consumer demand is on China's side, simples.
trump lost his own trade war 😂
these are great tarrriffs… wonderful tariffs..
you will see wonderful bankruptcies of numerous american businesses,
you have never seen such wonderful disasters for american economy before the orange scammer..
America needs its best known export….regime change😂😂😂
These are fair analysis, not like Melisa Chan’s report.
China has existed for over 4000 years, the US has been around just over 200 years. China has patience and can wait for as long as it takes. China will be around long after the US has burned itself out.
Trump is being played like a cheap guitar.
Of course yes. The US is still a bit more sensitive to public dissent. In China the administration is under no pressure from the public.
🇨🇳 has risen as the new global dominance because Chinese are culturally well-educated, resilient, respectful, and hard working. Our world needs a harmony driven leader and not a war driven 🇺🇸
DW needs to stop grasping for straws. Germany has been seeming frail for a while now.
China is having to appeal for help to countries whose international boundaries are being impinged by China. Karma.
Trump's leadership style was different from traditional politicians
If you need to retire within the next few year. Forget about it.
Did Vietnam really make money from China or other way around like most ASEAN
The trip was arranged before the Trump tarrifs. Please don't cheat us😢
This is is crazy. US based companies have Manufacturing sites in China. China and the World act like we're against Chinese Innovation and Corporations. We are NOT. We want our companies to move back when it comes to critical manufacturing of goods ie. Chips, Meds, Military, etc. China acts like they came up with the Intellectual IP of these products when they have NOT
Yes I do know China 🇨🇳 would win trade war!
China already say there no winner in trade war and that is fact. 😊😊😊
Off course. China doesn't have to deal with civilians. They don't care about them.
Rule of law is a American saying. So let's FAFO.
Why EU supporting china? They want to be VASSAL state of chinese?
China does not have elections like in the US It has a combination of elections and selection. China has local elections and that can change the leadership decisions quickly as we have seen with COVID lockdown and how quickly they eased up after massive protests
Trump style is lots of noise not much substance. He is fair dealer. He get just peanuts but he wants to show he is a deal maker
❤Yes INDEED. Time is on China's side . Why should countries join Trump's MADNESS 😂? How do leaders explain to their electorates that they support this ?
China didn't do anything wrong. American CEOs chosed to manufacture outside of U.S.
Thy thou thariff thy neighbor shall fail. It must be a commandment.
Trump is a 6 time bankrupter. Trump's 7th is going to be epic
你一个伪装德国媒体的美国宣传机器,标题说考虑选边中国,我真有点怕。请保持你的反华立场,便于大家理解你的真实意图。
5:11 the USA already did this.China shows as a solution and as the diversity, not the USA. Trump applied tariffs to Asia.
So China stands for the rule of law? Yeah, that's hilarious. DW repeats this with a straight face?
bully vs. fatkid.
DW clearly picked a side. y’all keep choosing to loose world wars… Third time isn’t the charm!
AmeriKKKa is a corrupt banana republic with a bunch of corrupt judges on the Supreme Court 🤑
Of course China want Trump tariff war: tariff up, inflation up, interest rate up, US debt default, US belly up. It’s just a suicide bluff, all Trump wants is dump US debt on others, look at Japan, even they refused. That’s Trumps deal: forcing others to take over US debt.
Now Trump surrenders, US lose its geopolitical position completely, capital fly away, trade deficit soars, US goes belly up, just take a little longer.
The yanks will back down, that is not in doubt.
China is now the world leader.
access to the American market represents 1 out of every 3 dollars spent globally. Cheap labor and zero environmental regulation is meaningless without someone to buy the products
De-dollarization
Goto see China export hubs all over collapsing and job losses
Compared to more expensive flip flops for USA
China does t have time
These tariffs will devastate the Chinese economy even more than it already is. China is export led, it will always lose a trade war. Rare earths are easy to mine, it’s 1930s technology we already have access to. China is screwed, and they know it.
lol china reliable partner?
Looked at the belt and suspener nonsense in Angola? I was there, when Hanjin Airlines were duping 1000's of chinese per plane into build their roads straight from the mine to the port.
Goto see China export hubs all over collapsing and job losses
Compared to more expensive flip flops for USA
China does t have time
Time is not on China’s side for much of anything, besides EVs in the massive developing country markets. But that won’t save the PRC.
Issue with China and other partners
Issue is they are all exporters and all wants to sell stuff and not buy
That won’t work lol
Does everyone forget how china has been a bully all over Asia (they took waters from all their neighbors by making artificial islands). A German tax funded network giving a Chinese view, not sure going to a dictatorship regime side is the right thing to do here. Short term thinking by DW
Now Trump is begging China to have a deal 😂
huh
