The film features the irresistible pairing of Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, whose chemistry is palpable against the backdrop of 1930s America.
The story centers around a runaway heiress, Ellie Andrews, played by Colbert, who escapes from her wealthy but controlling father. In her quest for freedom, she crosses paths with Peter Warne, a cynical and out-of-work reporter portrayed by Gable. What begins as a reluctant alliance for the sake of a story quickly evolves into a delightful and chaotic journey filled with clever banter, humorous mishaps, and unexpected romance.
The film is notable for its sharp dialogue and charmingly comedic situations, characteristic of the screwball comedy genre. Iconic scenes, such as the infamous “walls of Jericho,” highlight both the characters’ evolving relationship and the film’s clever wit. Capra’s direction brings out the nuance in the performances, while Riskin’s screenplay delivers memorable lines that have stood the test of time.
“It Happened One Night” not only showcases the talents of its lead actors but also set a benchmark for future romantic comedies. My favorite romcom!! 🥰
I’m confused. They had two hitchhiking scenes in this movie. Did anyone else notice that?
I have a feeling that who ever shows these movies has never seen them. They keep putting up random pictures of movies that are not the one they are showing.😅
Hilarious this film has Clark Gable threaten to break her neck when she wants to get out the car and that he tied a car owner to the tree when stealing said car. Yet this film is described as Hollywood classic. How times have changed
FIVE STARS⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Get it right if chaplin could do it right why don't you watch all his movies and learn
Point on why would you put cary grant image on Clark gable movie whats up doc
The man with the flying trapeze..
Clark Gable stars, are you so foreign you don't know that? Or just dishonest?
It is odd to watch a movie of a time that no living person has any memory of as an adult. A baby born then would be 91 and a ten year old would be 101. The youngest adult would have to be 119. The last remaining WW II vets were kids when this came out. Movie making had already evolved to the point where they were already making some of the best movies ever made. This movie is better than any recent movie I have seen and is one of the best I have ever seen.
This kind of movie is like a time capsule. It would have been made to look like the world people lived in in 1934. What a bus ride was like then and what hotels and bus stations looked and sounded like. It is interesting to notice where the language has changed and where it has remained the same. When we see silent movies of WW I, it shows a time that no living person has seen but silent movies are not the same. Something changed when you had movies with sound and they developed to this level. This movie seems to be done with actors acing like real people as opposed to stylized acting that seems corny. A lot of movies that are this old are like that and they seem as something halfway between a modern movie and a silent one. I find them hard to watch while this is just a great movie where you forget you are watching a movie until it ends. It seems like a window to the world 91 years ago. This is one of the oldest movies that does that.
