A devastating wildfire in Jasper, Alberta has left a trail of destruction in its wake, with officials estimating that 30 per cent of the town’s structures have been destroyed. Despite a brief respite in fire activity due to cooler temperatures, the blaze continues to burn out of control. The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days as temperatures rise, with Parks Canada officials predicting that firefighting efforts will need to continue for at least three more months.
While many buildings have been lost, critical infrastructures like the hospital, firehall, and library have been spared. This has provided a small glimmer of hope amidst the widespread devastation. Jasmine King reports from Hinton, Alberta, providing the latest updates on the efforts to contain the fire and protect what remains of the town.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this disaster, it is clear that the road to recovery will be long and challenging. The resilience and determination of the residents and emergency crews will be put to the test in the weeks and months ahead. The impact of the Jasper wildfire serves as a stark reminder of the destructive power of nature, and the importance of preparedness, vigilance, and swift action in the face of such threats.

My condolences to everyone for such loss and iriplacemable devistation caused by the fires, i wonder how the former township folks of Lytton BC, feel about there historic City and Township was wiped off the map, and then black screens for miles to obstruct the view of the loss and devistation there as to no create any further interest.. or from what i was told to not cause any traffic delays passing former Lytton along the TransCanada Highway. I hope that the community of Jasper is able to rebuild and not become errased from our History like they did with Lytton BC…
That's what happens when you have Beatle kill all around and refuse to clean it up because it's a Park forest mismanagement will do that
Will there be a pancake breakfast.
Your not allowed. Blackrock is buying.
Quick everyone! More carbon taxes so the fire knows to stop.
Don't raise my insurance rates out east because of it to pay for claims.
People from Alberta.
I'm British and want to move over there because this country seems to absolutely suck.
My question is, where's the safest place in Alberta? In other words, where are natural disasters extremely rare?😂
selective fires
What has the current corrupt Liberal government done differently from last years fires ???
NOTHING
Sending more laundry money through Ukraine is what they did.
25000 people die of hunger every day. This a town of 5000 people that is the size of 2 high schools. Just bring it down a notch would you. These clowns should have been living in a big city not in the middle of of dry wood forest. 5000 clowns trying to be some where they shouldn't be. Ya this sucks but I have no more sympathy then I do for people that live on lake side and get hit with hurricanes. You made a bad decision living there. Can you just own it and move somewhere its unlikely your home will be destroyed by a natural disaster. This the same with anyone on the bottom of a hill getting there stuff flooded with rain. Its not always about getting a good deal on a home and most of those good deals are like that for a reason.
When your buying a home just have a bit of forethought about weather and most of these issues never happen to you.
Let’s live in a place that needs to be rebuilt every 50-100 years…
Thoughts & prayers to all affected by this crazy summer scenario.
Trudeau & his Liberal/NDP coaltion caused this.
This is what happens when controled fires are not practiced and not taking care of the bug kill "it's a national park we want it all natural "well there you go
The national park is a federal responsibility. Where was Trudeau. Instead of handing billions of our dollars to corrupt countries, we should have been investing to protect Canadians here at home. He is a complete failure at best, traitor at worst.
UNESCO world heritage site, just like Maui…
Too bad we wasted so much money in Ukraine, could have bought water bomber's for our country instead. The government has to see that this happens yearly. Stop giving out money to foreign affairs and use it here
I'm a conspiracy truther, and all of this is not right! It really has nothing to do with fires but to use the fire for division😢
Well at least the trees didn't burn.
Im this case how is this a wildfire if theyve already caught the person that started it 🧐🤔
Listen to the firefighters who have lived through the fire Given that the lawyers for the Indigenous treaties has been delayed since 1850 and no Indigenous presence during the presser last week, ( press between federal and provincial leaders Mayor) I hope that the Alberta leader can uphold what she'd said she'd do. Given that Lytton is not even building yet, and it's been three years, nobody had so far, notified them for housing projects, or onsite living situation for them for as I am aware,, unless she's written it by her own hand, at what she's planning on doing, there's been no water containers on trains, or fire fighting apparatus there's been no 1000 drone water bucket brigade fight on these fires, some of these places where the fires are, are very remote, where fire fighters can't get go, so drone brigade could be useful. I appreciate that they contacted foreign International fire fighters, and totally appreciate what the current fire fighters are doing, we need to include Indigenous fire fighters, we need to include s in Fort Mac, the Lahaina fires, California fires. We need to find a better way. So many losses, grateful for fire fighters and their assistance to locala in fires in BC too. That's how I see it. Being remote doesn't mean out of sight.
Please stop showing these horrifying images…these people have had enough to deal with ….have some empathy for them ….
This is 100% default of forest Miss management. Don’t fill yourself, the federal government wants to trick you into pay more taxes by allowing our forest to burn.
All other towns take note! and do zip to prepare.
I would be very interested to hear if any of the small surrounding communities have been able to also receive assistance/how much?
sooooo nobody learned from fort mcmurray.. 🤔
Only 30%💀
Parks Canada needs to be held responsible. It’s their responsibility to ensure that our parks are clean to prevent runaway termite activity and removing dead trees to prevent theses tragedies. I blame parks Canada and by extension the federal government, by extension Trudeau. Danielle clearly can’t rely on the federal government so from now on Alberta needs to maintain its natural parks by itself
I drove through Jasper just a week before the fires and it was really 🔥, my thoughts were hopefully nothing happens to this place. I spent a lot of time visiting as I grew up in the Edmonton area, now I live in BC where we are on fire watch seems like every single year. It is really sad that it takes so long to rebuild and I feel for everyone who loses there homes. Good luck to all who are suffering ❤
Trudeau better not be sending money to a another country! We need help
