In a devastating turn of events, a massive wildfire tore through Jasper, destroying a third of the town and leaving many residents displaced. However, despite the widespread destruction, critical infrastructure was miraculously saved thanks to the quick thinking and coordinated efforts of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, Federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan, and Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland.
The wildfire, which began unexpectedly and quickly spiraled out of control, posed a grave threat to key infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and power stations. In the face of such a dire situation, Premier Smith, Minister Sajjan, and Mayor Ireland sprang into action, implementing emergency response plans and mobilizing resources to protect these vital assets.
Through their swift and decisive actions, the trio was able to prevent the complete destruction of critical infrastructure in Jasper. While the town may have suffered significant losses, the fact that essential services remain intact is a testament to the effectiveness of their response.
As the community of Jasper begins the long process of rebuilding and recovery, the importance of strong leadership and proactive emergency preparedness has never been clearer. The efforts of Premier Smith, Minister Sajjan, and Mayor Ireland serve as a shining example of how collaboration and quick thinking can make all the difference in the face of a crisis. Their actions have undoubtedly saved countless lives and ensured that Jasper can continue to function in the aftermath of this tragedy.

She can cry all she wants , when you want the Federal governments help you have your hand out , but when it comes to participating in CCP Universal Health Care you gave Canadians the finger.
Your province is / has become more arid !!! Its beciming drier and its not due to lack of snow !!

Climate Change is not going away .

My prayers for residents of Jasper !
Sadly many structure some historical have been lost …
Praying for the residents of Jasper in the wake of this terrifying experience. 🙏🏻😔 Appreciate the information shared in today's update to gain a better perspective on the scale of this fire & how it completely overwhealmed PREPARED response teams & resources. Happy to help with the rebuilding of this beautiful community. 💞
I am just happy that I haven’t heard about anyone getting harmed or worse. Be safe folks.
federal government perp walk.
Bravo to the fire fighters for protecting critical infrastructure including the hospital and waste water treatment plant 👏 👏 👏
Thank you to ALL persons involved.
Some serious questions for Parks Canada need to be asked about the losses in Jasper. The Provincial government and Parks Canada would never have allowed the Banff townsite to experience this kind of loss. Jasper was sacrificed because they don't have the financial investment and political influence to save them. Why? Where was our Provincial and Federal Environment Ministries? Don't preach to me about saving the environment with a carbon tax. Save our protected forest resources, our heritage and our neighbours. Shame on them for their negligent failures.
This was a very good update. The situation is sad but everyone is pulling together and it sounds like preparation, expertise and effort were all there and simply overpowered by Mother Nature. I continue to wonder whether there is something different to be done with respect to prescribed burns to thin out the Forrest fuel but that is a discussion for another day. I am encouraged that most have not taken it into a political discussion, and saddened that the minority of unhelpful individuals did so in the comment section.
Canada is getting destroyed piece by piece 😓
This may be a good time to consider rebuilding with Hemp-crete building blocks . They are in Calgary . Fire proof and super insulation.
Massive fire as this create their own weather patterns.
Someone needs to turn the mic’s up
Smith as reward shall cut budget to now 40 million a year instead of 50 for all of Alberta. Thats why these fires are wiping out towns. she cut it from about 134 million a year, they've lost a lot.
Québec is on your side ,for recovery and healing !We ❤Alberta 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦

Please rebuild underground or hemp Crete above ground structures.
Don't sell out please.
Back in the day we fought the fire on the frontlines not picked and choose like what happens now a days huh….
Politics interferes with everything now a days and that pretty sad!!!
Incompetents from all government! Federal and provincial! Forest management is a priority in Alberta and Canada, cuts by both useless governments is shameful and completely unacceptable! When will these useless politicians be held accountable.
Towns like Banff and Jasper are owned and run by the wealthiest Albertans…the Elites…they have prostituted these towns for decades…becoming very wealthy…now, they will use tax dollars to resurrect themselves so that they can continue to make their fortunes larger.
What a fantastic leader Mayor Ireland is being. Very well said, very authentic. No notes, no script.
Why does the town not have water tanks and fire hoses?
THE HEROS ONCE AGAIN FIRST RESPODERS, FIRE FIGHTERS, THE PEOPLE OF JASPER, AND ALL INVOLVED IN HELPING
God bless our Danielle Smith, she is battling more than just the Liberals, this is a massive world wide conflict. Stay vigalant and stay awake!
Beautiful, brave, Firefighters, Mayor and wonderful Danielle. Thank you, but we need Alberta and BC given far more resources, training, people, fire hazards removed, safety and emergency routes/buildings to house and infrastructure protection. Citizens should not be without support and help
