Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and what better way to bring all the flavor to your table than with Jeff Mauro’s Sweet and Spicy Smoked Turkey with Smoked Gravy. This mouthwatering recipe is sure to be a crowd-pleaser and will have your guests coming back for seconds.
To start, you’ll need to prepare the Sweet BBQ Rub. This blend of turbinado sugar, salt, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic, and other spices adds a rich, smoky flavor and a deep mahogany color to the turkey. Rub the mixture all over the turkey and refrigerate overnight to dry brine.
On the day of roasting, let the turkey sit at room temperature for an hour before adding it to the grill. Place the turkey in a disposable aluminum pan with carrots and peppers, then smoke at 350 degrees F for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. The key here is to smoke the turkey until the breast meat reaches 160 degrees F and the thighs hit 165 degrees F for the perfect juicy and tender meat.
While the turkey is resting, you can prepare the delicious Smoked Gravy. Simply melt butter in a pot, add flour to make a roux, and slowly whisk in the drippings from the pan. Let it simmer until it reaches the desired consistency, adjusting the seasoning if necessary.
Finally, slice the turkey and serve it over a medley of smoked carrots and peppers, with the gravy on the side. The combination of sweet, spicy, and smoky flavors will make this turkey the star of your Thanksgiving feast.
This Sweet and Spicy Smoked Turkey with Smoked Gravy recipe is a must-try for your holiday table. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a cooking novice, this dish is sure to impress your guests and elevate your Thanksgiving meal to the next level. It looks good.
I will only eat smoked turkey in my smoker( hickory wood) or deep fried in peanut oil in my large outdoor deep fryer pot, no sweetness , no roasting, baking ,& similar to my ham , I will only eat salt cured smoked ham from our smokehouse( my fave) , smoked ham , or for cold cuts boiled ham, no honey ham , sweet ham , etc… period .
Delicious
