On this week’s episode of Billboard News Chart Rewind, we are taking a trip down memory lane to celebrate three iconic number one hits from three very different artists. First up, we go back 50 years to 1974 when Elton John’s “Benny and the Jets” topped the charts, marking his second number one hit following “Crocodile Rock.”
Moving ahead 25 years, we land on April 10th, 1999 when TLC claimed the number one spot with their smash hit “No Scrubs,” their third Hot 100 chart-topper.
And finally, we fast forward to 2009 when Lady Gaga took the music world by storm with her infectious track “Poker Face,” which hit number one on April 11th, 2009. This was Gaga’s second Hot 100 number one hit, following her debut single “Just Dance.”
Each of these songs represented a moment in music history and solidified these artists’ places as chart-topping superstars. From Elton John to TLC to Lady Gaga, these hits have stood the test of time and continue to be fan favorites to this day.
