Lebanon reports 182 killed in morning offensive by Israel on Hezbollah targets

Lebanon has been rocked by a deadly offensive launched by Israel on Hezbollah targets, with the health ministry reporting that at least 182 people have been killed and hundreds more wounded in the strikes. The United Nations has warned that the Middle East is on the “brink of imminent catastrophe” as tensions continue to escalate in the region.

The US has also called on Israel to exercise caution and avoid escalating the conflict with Hezbollah. Israel, however, has stated that its strikes against Hezbollah are intensifying, with citizens in southern Lebanon receiving warnings to evacuate areas used by the Iran-backed group.

Amidst the mounting casualties and destruction, a Lebanese minister has dismissed the warnings as “psychological warfare,” while Israel’s defense minister has vowed to continue the strikes until their goals are achieved – ensuring the safe return of northern residents to their homes.

The situation remains highly volatile and continues to raise concerns internationally as the violence between Israel and Hezbollah shows no signs of abating. Both sides appear to be prepared to pursue their respective objectives, potentially fueling further escalation in the conflict.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of the devastating offensive, the need for de-escalation and diplomacy becomes increasingly urgent to prevent further loss of life and widespread destruction. The international community must step in to mediate and find a peaceful resolution to the crisis before it spirals out of control.
