In a recent video interview, Manon Aubry, co-president of the Left group, criticized EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and called on French President Macron to “admit that he lost the election” and appoint a prime minister from the left-wing alliance. Aubry, a member of the France Unbowed party, explained her opposition to von der Leyen and discussed international issues such as the conflict in Ukraine and Gaza.
Despite von der Leyen winning a comfortable majority from MEPs for a second term, the Left bloc remains steadfast in their opposition to her leadership. Aubry’s stance reflects the concerns and grievances shared by many on the left regarding von der Leyen’s policies and actions.
Aubry’s call for President Macron to acknowledge his defeat in the parliamentary election and appoint a prime minister from the left-wing alliance, the New Popular Front, highlights the growing demand for political representation and change among progressive forces in France.
Overall, Aubry’s interview sheds light on the ongoing political debates and tensions within the EU, as well as the domestic political landscape in France. The Left group’s stance against von der Leyen and their push for a left-wing prime minister in France demonstrate the continued relevance and importance of left-wing politics in shaping the future direction of the country and the EU as a whole.

France can't afford to be ruled by the Left..they (the Left) must realize this fact..
This is why the vote must be public we must know who betrayed the people who didn't want Von der Lying in fact the whole voting system must change let the European people directly elect the commission president
And you guys must also admit you DIDNT win unless Micron helped you undemocraticly
She has consistency🎉
@manonaubry your party did not win majority, the French didn’t say they want the left to govern…the French vote is split btw 3 parties…they are asking you to learn how to work together. Like in many countries now, the voice of the people wants balance. Balance btw Left, Centre and Right no absolute, no extremism but Balance.
well let the communist take over france and soon you will look like cuba or venezuela how much more dumb can you get
all the rich french citizens and companies will leave france there will be millions of un- employed and muslims will take over the country
i used to visit france every year but never again disgusting
Both the left and centre lost the popular vote by a massive margin, a plurality of the french want RN to lead. Nobody has a majority, obviously, but let's not pretend NFP is the party(s) that the people want. The people did not put NFP first, the people put NFP in a distant second to RN. RN 37%, NFP 26%.
She's a hypocrite. Backroom dealings to make sure only a single candidate opposed the NR in each electorate is fine but 'similar' dealings in choosing a Speaker is not fine? It's not even similar. She doesn't want foreigners to get the wrong idea about French politics? What idea would that be? That parties might act in accordance with their supporters? The right wing party knew they didnt have the numbers to win with their speaker so they pulled out and shifted their support to the remaining candidate their supporters would most favour. This is how democracy is supposed to work.
There is no honesty in the world. So the games of ego, power play and selfishness will only dominate.
Gaza is so far away. It has nothing to do with French security. I think that’s the standard not double standard.
And the NFP must admit they didn't win neither
It's a Fact that One of the Reasons African's have Migrated is because there is Not Enough Quality/Reasonable Homes in Africa.
There is a Global Shortage of Reasonable Homes, Preferably Solar Powered.
What I don't understand is why the NFP has not agreed on and put forth a Prime Minister for the public to rally behind and for Macron to consider.
The left can govern if it has the votes, as of now it does not
Politics is a fairy tale for adults.
Power to the People👍
Centre/ centre right = 222. Left/ far left = 200 all that matter is the math the rest is just talk
MUST you have the continuing images behind the guest?! It's really annoying. We don't need a travel channel graphic.
They can ask him but legally Emmanuel Macron, the current President of France, was first elected in May 2017 and re-elected for a second term in April 2022. According to the French constitution, a president can serve a maximum of two consecutive five-year terms. This means Macron cannot run for a third consecutive term in the 2027 election. However, after a break, he would be eligible to run again in future elections. nonetheless he can legally stay on until 2027 which he will.
Von der Leyen, from lightweight German secretary of defense to lightweight President of the European Commission.
So the Left made backroom deals to try to win the election, but when everyone’s else starts making backroom deals they consider it a coup. C’mon 😂
The unelected.. electing themselves again!
Rep like this person is the reason why the right gained so much momentum in France. Just angry and bitter…
Finally someone who makes sense
Brilliant. Macron lost. He must go.
Typical surreal comments, Macron is not popular but a political genius in his strategy, look at the results, same head of parliament, same prime minister and he now can govern with a majority on the right and center…whilst the left can't agree on anything…what a joke…
The Left must admit that they've lost.
The french have said no to the right wing , simple as that . They push soooo hard for what they want.
Too bad.
Crazy that the front popular is not considered far left, biased media, they literally describe themselves as communist and socialist within the party
Has she read the Human Rights Watch report?
He has already told you, no one won the election just listen
but the left have no majority to run their program. now communists will have to unite with the center. so far right can have even better results in presidential election.
The left wing alliance cannot even agree on a candidate. Her comments are surreal.
Of course only the right can ne far. Never the left. There is beauty in asymmetry. 😂
…but he win the hearts of his people
