“Lilith” is a captivating psychological drama that follows the life of therapist Vincent Bruce, played by Warren Beatty, as he navigates his feelings for the enigmatic and alluring patient Lilith Arthur, portrayed by Jean Seberg. Set in a private sanitarium, the film delves into the complexities of love, jealousy, and manipulation as Vincent’s infatuation with Lilith spirals out of control. The addition of Peter Fonda’s character, Stephen Evshevsky, as another patient vying for Lilith’s attention adds an intense layer of drama to the story.
Directed by Robert Rossen, “Lilith” beautifully captures the fragile state of the human mind and the power dynamics that can arise in relationships. The performances by the talented cast bring depth and emotion to the characters, making the film a compelling watch from start to finish.
Overall, “Lilith” is a thought-provoking exploration of love, obsession, and mental health that will leave viewers captivated and questioning the nature of human emotions.

This film would have been provocative when released. Thanks for the upload.
Critics were/are harsh about this film. Yes it's slow, but it's interesting to see how this kind of unhealthy relationships happens even in a mental institute. Mistakes still happens to this day. It's too bad that this picture didn't get the recognition it deserved. I know Warren was difficult on set but I like the fact that he stayed friendly with Jean, calling her to take news and support her when her career & life took a dark turn when in the late 60's-early 70's, she stood up for civil rights and highly payed the price for it. Harrassment from the FBI, engaging herself into bad toxic relationships, loss of a baby, deep depression, adventures without tomorrow and in my opinion her last relationship with a young dangerous algerian guy who had a part of responsability in her tragic end. Jean was in advance on her time, she was misunderstood and got persecuted and humiliated publicly for it. She slowly lost her mind but I still think she was a brave soul who aspired to freedom at a time when people of all races were not supposed to be. An inspiration. Rip Angel Jean ❤. You are loved & remembered !
1:51:45 For God's Sake, What Lilith has done to herself and why ? Vincent left the scene like a coward not even trying to save her. People caught him leaving the mental institute and then he goes towards them, saying : " Help me, instead of saying Help poor Lilith dying ! ". Vincent is lost and realized that he's not made for this job, but that's cruel of him to not having a word for the girl he had affection for ! Most men are nothing but cowards and it's getting worst & worst with time. Nothing positive to expect from them. Not hating, just saying !
He's attracted physically to her but his body language doesn't indicate that he truly cares about her as a person, her history who leads her there, he just pretends when in reality…he seems bored & indifferent. He doesn't have the skills to be a true therapist clearly.
Stephen doesn't dig and can't stand that Lilith is attracted by Vincent and not him ! Here's explained his tragic end. And Peter was underrated compared to his sister Jane. He could be as good as her ! About Warren, it's the opposite, Shirley, his sis, is the better actor !
Worst occupational therapist ever😂
I look upon this film as largely unknown and under-appreciated gem.
Heck, you could put me up there and hear no complaint. I’d like to take my cats with me if I could.
Peter Finda, or Warren Beaty, tough choice !
Hypersexuality is one of the main characteristic in mentally unstable and in script its a worker in facility that is screwing the unstable residents of facility how come?
Its very taxing for normal person to work or be with unstable mental people, , even when trained, little bit of eccentricities are fine especially if you are into multiple skills, but some crazed insanity would go to great lengths just to destroy or destablize minds including going on creating telephone background noises with apps or whatever it is called on vulnerable children's minds messing them for some toxic reasons or out in normal atmosphere i swear i have never such grotesque deformed people in commute as if normal people just do not exist or creating nasty mean illusions or psychosis around stench filled bums roaming around something so deranged has happened to USA i have all of it on my camera
There are narcissistic nut jobs undiagnosed in this crazy world more than there ever was
I have too much mental illness in my family to watch it on television!! Couldn’t stand watching it!! Depressing and boring 🥱
Jean was beautiful.
In real life therapist would never have an entanglement with a patient and the management would never allow this type of fraternising. It puts patients in danger of all sorts of mental strain and other issues
He crossed the line and they let him, it cost her and fonda their lives
Never seen or heard of this movie before, so thanks for the add to your repertoire
The film was suited to the b/w, it added to the atmosphere
I enjoyed Jeans performance, I’ve not seen a lot of her stuff, and handsome Beatty was a little stiff for my liking (he was very young here so maybe that’s why) Kim Hunter always gives a solid and I enjoyed seeing the likes of gene Hackman and Jessica Walter pop up, which was a bit coincidental as a little while before she made her debut scene I was thinking of play misty for me, wonder if they have a director in common (will google) it had the same kinda vibe as misty, so maybe that’s why I thought of it
I was indeed disappointed with the last two words spoken at the end “help me” I was quite invested and the end spoilt it for me, and warren could of put a bit more welly into it
Well that was depressing.
the last seen of the movie………..
With Gene Hackman and Jessica Walters
Many have forgotten what a great actress Jean Seberg was and how she hounded to death by the FBI's COINTELPRO.
