ActionKid, the Chinese temple you featured in today's stream was spectacular! Appreciate you sharing your travels with us, stay safe. 🐼🙏🏽😊
Is it true that you are going to get married in Vietnam?
You walked past Pho Le (left side of the street) at 16:30 of the video. If you haven't already, maybe go there and try their pho?
I appreciate this Video Sir And Wherever You go I know that I will Appreciate it 👍 👍
About to go to sleep but I need to correct this because I forget so many times.
Most of the old places you visited in Cholon are not temples, but "Hội Quán" or Clan Communal Halls from different groups of Chinese. There used to be 7 groups with a building call "7 Unions" something I forget, to gather all groups together, this Chinese structure is now tucked behind a big tall building in Cholon. The others Communal Halls all have schools next to them, and each worshipped different Gods and Deities, so people just call them "temples" but they're actually "Communal Halls".
These Communal Halls helped new migrants settled in, provided their kids with education and dissolved disputes between other groups of Chinese. They said if you looked at these communal halls, you could tell the state of wealth of those Chinese communities overseas back in the days.
The one you just walked in is Teochew Communal Hall but they set up the stage for Cantonese opera there every holiday. Each group of Chinese also built their own hospital, that's why you see so many hospitals in Cholon. All the big hospitals in Cholon no longer bear Chinese names, but they used to be.
Next time you pass by you can tell what these buildings and places used to be:
1 – Cantonese – Hội quán Tuệ Thành (Chùa Bà Thiên Hậu) built by Chinese from Tuệ Thành – Quảng Châu (Guang Zhou Province)
2 – Teochew – Hakka – Hội quán Nghĩa An (Chùa Ông) or (Miếu Quan Đế) Triều Châu và Hẹ
3 – Hokkien – Hội quán Nhị Phủ Built by Chinese from Tuyền Châu và Chương Châu tỉnh Phúc Kiến (Fujian Province)
4 – Hokkien/Fujianese – Hội Quán Ôn Lăng Phúc Kiến (Fujian Province)
5 – Hai Nan – Hội quán Quỳnh Phủ (Chùa Bà Hải Nam) (Hai Nan Province)
After eating your rice rolls, did you go to Hem 671 next store (also known as "Horse Carriage Lane" in Cantonese)? It is one of the historical residential alleyways that the local Chinese live.
This was a nice Friday morning walk around Saigon thank you
