My Life With Meta Ray-Ban Displays: A Weird Wild Future
My Life With Meta Ray-Ban Displays: A Weird Wild Future
In the rapidly evolving landscape of augmented reality, Meta’s new Ray-Ban Displays aim to redefine our interaction with technology. Priced around $800, these smart glasses integrate audio, microphones, and a unique display for augmented experiences. What sets them apart is the neural wristband that allows users to control the device through gestures—think waving your hand for scrolling or selecting options—like wizard magic.
The glasses feature a high-res monocular display that functions indoors and outdoors, delivering a variety of built-in apps including Instagram and Facebook Messenger. However, they come with limitations; the app selection is restricted, requiring a smartphone connection, and they aren’t compatible with many prescription lenses.
Despite the promise of seamless integration into daily life, users may encounter challenges such as battery life (averaging just a few hours) and the awkwardness of managing the additional wristband. As competitors like Google and Apple prepare to enter the arena, the future of smart glasses is still very much in flux.
Curious and adventurous? The Meta Ray-Ban Displays represent an intriguing glimpse into the potential of wearable technology, but they’re just a starting point that highlights the need for further innovation. Join me as I explore both the marvels and drawbacks of living with this futuristic tech!

incorrect information here. SDK is available for glasses. There will be no separate store of apps, but rather relying on Android/Apple stores.
Very limited, will wait for Google glasses given I'm already very invested in android…
Crazy to let Zuckerberg go everywhere you go and see everything you see… do you really think Meta will protect your privacy?
You're the first person where I think the glasses actually look good and look natural on the wearer, shame they dont work for you
Fun fact…. It’s Thursday here…
There aren't to many people i hate more than mark Zuckerberg
Meta is targeted a wrong people. If this is launched in Europe or asia, it'll DOMINATE the market. Why? Because people used WhatsApp.
I own a pair and they are cool but the limited functionality makes it not worth the money. Wait for gen 2
Mine gave me really bad cyber sickness. I've never experienced something like Vertigo but after using them heavily for about 90 minutes while walking outside, I experienced dizziness and motion sickness for about a week. Still have some slight symptoms, definitely returning. Wouldn't recommend. I don't think Apple will be able to solve for this either, this format just doesn't work well for heavy usage because the screen size is so small. Has to bounce while you're walking. I have an Apple Vision Pro (M2) as well, I've never experienced any motion sickness during or after use.
Please stop platforming these invasive and nonconsensual data harvesting devices. It's deeply unethical to use these in public as you are.
It's the end of the smart watch , so I can go back to wear my nice watches again
You're such a Meta sycophant!
You think you're just geeky, but you're enabling Big Brother to erase our privacy. How can you be thrilled at recording and streaming others' daily lives to Meta?
This could be the death of the smartphone. Glasses and a smartwatch would be all you need.
I want these but would like to buy now and get my prescription fitted, but I dont think I can do that yet
Very interesting tech in it's early days. Can't wait to see how it gets better in the future and hopefully it won't be limited to just Meta.
Wish they would allow us to put our own apps on it. Thats when you can capture the market
Yea.. wait for version 3 of this when prescription supported and lighter frame
I do not want Mark Zuckerberg between me and reality.
Death to recording without consent
why do you have to wear contacts with glasses…. can't you put prescription lenses on the frame?
I would rather google make this than Meta lol
I don't think they take photos or videos in landscape, just portrait? That's lamentable and unforgivable and incomprehensible.
They really should add instagram reels
Man, you guys really hate Meta 😀
