Massive water main break results in flooding chaos in downtown Montreal

A massive water main break in downtown Montreal’s east end caused chaos and flooding on Friday morning. The streets surrounding the Jacques Cartier bridge were submerged, leading to the evacuation of homes and offices in the area. About 150,000 residents in the east end were also placed under a boil water advisory due to the break.

The city of Montreal is currently investigating the cause of the break, but officials have revealed that the burst pipe was installed in 1985 and is approximately 84 inches in diameter. Mayor Valérie Plante assured residents that the situation was under control, although many were startled awake by firefighters urging them to leave their homes to escape the “geyser” of water.

Global’s Brayden Jagger Haines provided a report on the flooding and aftermath of the water main break. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining infrastructure to prevent such emergencies in the future. Residents in the affected area are urged to follow instructions from city officials and stay safe during this disruptive event.
