Title: Escalating Tensions: How China’s New Ships Could Enable a D-Day-Style Invasion of Taiwan
As military tensions rise in the Taiwan Strait, China’s naval modernization efforts present a sobering reality for regional stability. In a detailed examination by WSJ’s "Equipped," the emergence of China’s new amphibious assault ships signals a potential shift in the balance of power, capable of facilitating a large-scale invasion reminiscent of World War II’s D-Day.
Innovative Naval Engineering
Beijing’s ambitious naval initiative includes the development of specialized vessels designed not only for transport but also for rapid deployment of military forces. These ships are engineered to land directly on beaches and can be linked together to create extensive mobile piers. This innovative design significantly enhances the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) amphibious capability, allowing for efficient offloading of troops and equipment in the event of an incursion.
Insights from the Shipyard
The journey begins at a shipyard in Guangzhou, where construction on these advanced vessels highlights China’s commitment to bolstering its maritime forces. With an emphasis on speed and versatility, these ships are part of a broader strategy aimed at asserting control over Taiwan and surrounding waters.
Testing the Waters
Accompanying the construction narrative are the sea trials that these new ships must undergo. These rigorous evaluations are essential to ensure the vessels perform under operational conditions and confirm their readiness for potential military action. As tensions escalate, the implications of successful trials are profound and concerning for Taiwan and its allies.
Breakdown of Strategic Advantages
The WSJ breakdown sheds light on the specific features that make these ships formidable. Enhanced cargo capacity, advanced technology, and fast deployment capabilities are central to their design. Analysts caution that these innovations are not simply advancements in military logistics; they represent a paradigm shift in China’s approach to warfare in the region.
Potential Invasion Scenarios
The core of the report outlines scenarios that illustrate how these ships could enable a swift, coordinated invasion of Taiwan. In a D-Day-style operation, the rapid landing capabilities could allow Chinese forces to seize key strategic locations before international response mechanisms are fully activated. The prospect of such an operation continuously looms, reshaping security considerations across Asia Pacific.
Looking Ahead
As military analysts monitor the evolving situation, the question remains: what steps will Taiwan and its allies take in response to this escalating threat? The discussion surrounding regional security is more urgent than ever, highlighting the crucial nature of preparedness in the face of potential aggression.
In summary, WSJ’s "Equipped" presents a compelling look at how China’s new military vessels could serve as a linchpin in a broader strategy to assert dominance over Taiwan. As the capabilities expand and tensions continue to rise, the implications for regional and global security are profound, necessitating close scrutiny in the months to come.

Pooh Bear Pooh Bear
Great presentation for the authorities to analyze future developments for defense
2:50 instead of some stupid measurement like a field why not add a proper measurement the rest of the world uses such as meters?
TW is a province of CN
Dear WSJ, please add metrics to your units as the majority of the world doesn't measure using "Football" fields 😅
now after success of pl 15 E missile which is not even PL 15 knocking 3 rafale which is best of the european jets Taiwan rip
I live in Taiwan and it’s easy to say the PLAN could land in more places but Taiwan’s coast is a mess to get on land and the Taiwan Strait has high winds and crazy currents. Just because the Chinese build something don’t mean it’s gonna work in an invasion situation….
If this is our FUD imagine the truthful sh!t they can post about us
Good
Old news. We know about this last year —— long ago. You guys are so slow!!! Pathetic!
Como pueden ser tan estúpidos de pensar eso? En que mundo viven? O no saben o no se dan cuenta que con un solo misil se puede destruir?
WPS Reclamation Type invasion mode….Antidote Ukrainian Drone Vessel 🤔✌️
lol, it’ll all be a tangled mess of half-sunken junk before they deploy the ramps. Made in Chyyyner.
You need to accept China is a new super power
CHYYYNA!!! CHYYYNA!!! CHYYYNA!!!
A feet from whom??? A kid, an adult???😅😅😅😅
So Taiwan wants to instigate sedition and separation from China with just French made Mirage jets in its Air Force and old US missile systems, and hopes that the US fleet will come to its rescue. However, what happens if the current Chinese airforce and hypersonic missile tech is already denying the US navy first island chain access and maybe even all the way to the second chain? That’s why these bridge barges will come in handy.
During the American Civil War, both the North and South had separate governments. Was their war an invasion of each other? Mainland China and Taiwan are in a state of unfinished civil war. If Taiwan were to win the civil war, it could become independent, but the civil war has not yet concluded.
China is the most industrial powerhouse ever , with the highly organized social system and government,China is a perfect war machine ever. USA in WW2 is notheing compared to today`s China.
I don’t get why people call the U.S. imperialista but stay silent when China does similar things — especially when Taiwan has never really been under full Chinese control
China now want to make war material deliveries en mass and cheaper !!! Stop it China u gonna make waging war cheaper !!! I called this war waging overcapacity
US Media 😂😂😂😂😂😂
invade? Taiwan is part of China,as recognized byUN. So hand off China's internal affair.
Americans consider it a wasted day in which they dont engage in fear mongering about China. Find some new hobby peeps.

The scale and preparation shown here definitely raise concerns about the geopolitical tension in the region, especially how a conflict could reshape global markets overnight. It’s moments like these that make me more serious about diversifying my portfolio into digital assets. In a world where borders can shift and economies can destabilize fast, having exposure to decentralized investments just makes sense.
ah the WSJ, the US’s finest warhawk journalism …
its 2025 most of the world use the metric system, how hard is it to put imperial and metric written in video you can still verbally say the imperial?
These are definitely a key part of an amphibious invasion plan, and are likely inspired by the D-Day landings logistics, but these ships have a significant weakness compared to historical amphibious landing pier systems. These three ships probably aren’t interchangeable between sizes so if the smallest pier ship connecting to the beach is destroyed the whole system is useless. A long range guided artillery battery, low altitude drone, or cruise missile would probably be enough to render this whole system useless. It seems like a solid idea on paper, but using this would risk landing some units before its ramp gets demolished and then trapping all the beachhead forces on the beach. If the Taiwanese weren’t already rapidly increasing their strike capabilities and adding more remote reconnaissance positions to their coast line, there is plenty of time to set up long range artillery and strike capabilities that could render these piers highly vulnerable to being destroyed from anywhere on the island.
WSJ out here deleting critical comments as usual
Will never understand why idiots want to take over others stuff…
So many opinions mixed with facts in this video, intentionally or not, spreading the opinions to those unfamiliar with the truth.
Do a video on how 🇺🇸USA's vessels/weapons can be one day used to invade 🇨🇦Canada and 🇬🇱Greenland. 🇺🇸USA president himself suggested that invasion. So…
The name of the Taiwan government is the Republic of China, which is still China
China weapons need to be tested in real combats but not at Taiwan Strait.
Taiwanese reunification with Mainland China will be peaceful despite what the warmongerings US wants.
Now the world need to decide if it will come to Taiwan's aid during war or not.
China knows that if they have more ships than the defending systems, they can land and once they do; they've won!
lets go!!!!
Guam ……Hawaii …….then L.A …….!!! How can you sleep maybe you don't need sleep .
I see a good idea and the US should be copying this for their troops, but I see difficulties in building these ships in American shipyards, maybe they could buy one from China.
Typical American media scaremongering to facilitate American warmongering 🇺🇸🦅
Taiwan re-unification with China will be peaceful, almost all major political parties in Taiwan want this, as also most surveys in Taiwan say they don't want a war. It's pointless, both sides are ethnic Chinese and they share almost everything, a war would be so pointless and painful for both. Chinese people must be together.
