The new photography exhibition titled “No Woman’s Land” sheds light on the struggles faced by women living in Afghanistan under the oppressive rule of the Taliban. Co-authored by Kiana Hayeri and Mélissa Cornet, the project provides an intimate glimpse into the fight for women’s rights in the country.
Travelling across Afghanistan, Hayeri and Cornet documented the lives of women who risk harsh punishments, including lashings, if they dare to defy the strict rules imposed by the Taliban. The exhibition comes at a time when Human Rights Watch has warned of a worsening situation in Afghanistan, particularly for women.
The project, which recently received the prestigious Carmignac Photojournalism Award, captures the resilience and determination of Afghan women in the face of adversity. Through powerful photographs, “No Woman’s Land” showcases the daily struggles and triumphs of women fighting for their rights in a society that seeks to silence them.
The exhibition serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing battle for gender equality in Afghanistan and highlights the courage of women who continue to resist oppression. As the international community continues to monitor the situation in Afghanistan, the voices and experiences of these women serve as a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
