In a tragic event at the Kumbh Mela in northern India, dozens of people were killed and at least 60 others were injured in a pre-dawn stampede. This incident occurred as tens of millions of devotees gathered to take a dip in the sacred river waters on the most auspicious day of the six-week Hindu festival.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured that the holy dips have resumed smoothly for the devotees. A family member of one of the injured victims, Rudhu Ram, mentioned that around 30-40 people lost their lives and several others were left wounded.
The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh state stated that the situation was under control and that proper treatment facilities had been provided for those with serious injuries. This tragedy has cast a shadow over the religious festival, with authorities working to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
