One fatality and 9 apprehended in distinct border breaches between Canada and the US in Alberta

Two separate incidents near the Canada-US border in Alberta have left one person dead and nine others detained by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) this week. Assistant Commissioner Lisa Moreland of the RCMP’s Federal Policing Northwest Region held a news conference in Edmonton to address the incidents, which occurred near Coutts, Alberta and Emerson, Manitoba.

The most recent incursion attempt occurred on Tuesday, prompting the involvement of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team. Moreland emphasized the importance of border security and the cooperation between Canadian and US authorities in maintaining the integrity of the border.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in protecting the border and preventing illegal crossings. The ongoing efforts of agencies such as the CBSA and RCMP are crucial in safeguarding the integrity of Canada’s borders and ensuring the safety of its residents.
