Otley (1969) is a delightful blend of old-school British charm and the zany antics of a ‘90s action-comedy. Starring Tom Courtenay as Gerald Otley, a laid-back antique dealer who gets unwittingly caught up in a web of espionage, the film is a rollicking adventure full of twists and turns. With the added allure of Romy Schneider and Leonard Rossiter, the movie offers a fun and intriguing look into the swinging ‘60s era.
Directed by Dick Clement and written by Michael Relph, Otley is a hidden gem in the world of spy thrillers. Courtenay’s portrayal of the reluctant hero adds a touch of humor to the film, making it a refreshing departure from more serious espionage tales. The supporting cast, including Schneider and Rossiter, only add to the intrigue of the story.
Filled with double agents, betrayals, and a charmingly clueless protagonist, Otley is a must-watch for fans of classic spy movies with a mod-era twist. So, if you’re looking for a film that combines adventure, humor, and a healthy dose of 60s style, Otley is the perfect choice for your next movie night.

Great to see James Bolan and Leonard Rossiter before they became stars in Likely Lads and Rising Damp. A lovely moment of life as it was lived in the 1960s. Portobella Road Market, mini cars are available, but it's a bit early for the miniskirt.
