RBC customers in British Columbia are feeling furious after discovering unauthorized withdrawals from their bank account, followed by a partial refund. Jason and Susan Lyne were shocked by the banking error that occurred at one of Canada’s leading financial institutions. The couple, like many other disgruntled customers, are demanding answers and accountability from Royal Bank of Canada.
The Lynes expressed their frustration at the lack of transparency and communication from the bank regarding the unauthorized withdrawals. They were left feeling violated and helpless as their hard-earned money disappeared from their account without their consent. The partial refund offered by RBC was inadequate and did little to alleviate the financial hardship caused by the error.
This incident has left many RBC customers in British Columbia feeling disillusioned with the bank’s handling of their personal finances. The lack of accountability and resolution in this case has sparked outrage among those who rely on RBC for their banking needs. Customers are demanding better oversight and security measures to prevent future unauthorized transactions from occurring.
As the Lynes and other affected customers continue to push for answers and resolution, it remains to be seen how Royal Bank of Canada will address this issue moving forward. The banking error has highlighted the importance of trust and accountability in the financial industry, and customers are hopeful that RBC will take swift action to rectify the situation and regain their trust.

RBC is no good! Never heard anything good from them and it shows!
I have had to deal with RBC when I took over management of my Mom's finances. They are always a hassle to deal with. I would never, ever recommend them for anything.
As a former Canadian corporate banker please be advised Canadian banks are NOT the gold standard they portray themselves to be.
about time sue them
Segment is “consumer matters” so why toss in the comment about the banks record profits? it isn’t relevant to the story and clearly you are biased against the bank in this case by injecting that info.
i HAD THIS HAPPEN TO BE 5 MONTHS back what i did was i wen to a telus shop got the service ppl online to terminate the selling scam. got my money back and i had telus security over the phone to mke sure it wouldnt happen again. After that 2 months late i got the wonderful sry and thank you from Telus and was fine. Finances safe , mone safe and wentto sleep peace of mind. it took 3 hours on the phone but was well worth the effort. I told telus to terminate a account i never created they asked me some bank info and i told them also i had no even used ur tv services as well as i didnt autorize it. Since then Telus took care of it.
So frustrating😱😡
Nope, 9 months? She didn’t care or forgetful. I hate banks, but this is on them, it would take 2 days to figure this out, such lazy people
When there is a dispute, never do verbal communication with bank/vendor. Get everything in writing, probably should have take the case to Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions and Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Banks/Vendor will not take you seriously until you get regulator involved.
NEVER use RBC, as grade 10 is working Wellington Street (Toronto) and IT without college degrees.
RBC= rectums. there' a very good reason I left RBC in anger some 40yrs ago and never looked back. FRBC.
They never has account with Telus. Telus took their money. Telus owes them.
RBC sould be giving them there moneyh
How the heck do you think they made 4.5B dollars, by going after the hard earned money of the middle class people. Besides, they just bought out HSBC, which was a big expense, somebody's gotta pay for it – it's never them, it's you and me.
The sky is blue and banks steal your money.
Do not go with Rbc ever this is one of the reasons why just one of the reasons there’s many more issues within this bank
Banks can never be trusted at all.
Your money is not safe with this bank and they’ll lie to you. That’s where they lie with their customer service. Do not go with this bank. It’s corrupt.
This is just as much about Telus taking mkney against the wrong client, where telus should charge the proper person and refund the daughter
Taking both to the courts and let a judge decide watch how quickly they crumble
Move your accounts away from Rbc corrupt boycott the banks not grocery stores
RBC mistakenly allowed a third party customer access to their daughter’s bank account when that person made a mistake with their direct payment deal from Telus. 100% banks fault.
RBC just sunk themselves by letting this get out publicly on national news. Now watch them back peddle furiously to make nice.
Shouldn't Telus be able to provide a copy of the Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) agreement that was used to authorize the withdrawal? Perhaps it was another customer who was setting up PAD to pay their Telus bill and "accidentally" entered the wrong account number?
Wow! I was just about to open an account with RBC.
Not anymore!
RBC only made 30 billion last year so cut them some slack.
Telus is a problem company too. I was switching from another company and ordered internet services from them earlier this year, but the installer wanted to cut holes in my walls, so I said no, I'll stick with my present supplier. So nothing was installed or equipment left and yet Telus billed me for internet services never installed and kept asking me to return equipment I never had. This went on for four months and multiple phone calls and emails and texts. And each time being told it was fixed, but wasn't. So this could easily be Telus fault. Never set up recurring payments, because the bank is correct, when you gave the right to regularly deduct money from your bank account money already deducted is your problem not the banks.
Details of the story do not matter. The biggest problem – money in RBC account are not safe.
RBC and TD can kick rocks
If RBC felt that the issue was with Telus and nothing could be done about these automatic payment withdrawls, would closing the bank account not be a sound solution to stop further withdrawals? If so, should RBC NOT have suggested this to the account holder. Did I miss something ?
If I tell my bank that should not be coming out and block it and they don't it shows my bank failed after the fact.
LESSON LEARNED: NEVER ENTER INTO PRE AUTHORIZE PLAN WITH ANY BUSINESS INSTITUTION! THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY FASTER THAN LIGHTNING BUT IN TIME OF REFUND , THEY ARE UNREACHABLE STAR , CALL THEM AND YOU WILL BE PUT ON HOLD FOREVER UNTIL YOUR PULSE IS GONE..LOL 😮
What about Telus? Now that they know one of their clients incorrectly inputted information, that client now owes them that money and Telus needs to issue a full refund. Why didn't you highlight that fact and ask them to respond? They should have ways to verify that the client's information is correct before beginning the withdrawals.
Telus can make someone a duplicate SIM card to access your bank account and have zero responsibility
These banks have made gazillions since COVID, but they cannot find it in themselves to make a wronged customer whole again. Your bank used to be your partner that looked after your best interests, but now they are gold diggers focused on serving their share holders.
