Yazan Al Bawwab, a two-time Olympian swimmer from Palestine, is on a mission to not only compete on the world stage, but also to help build sports venues in his home country. Al Bawwab recently represented Palestine at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he proudly wore the Palestinian flag on his chest and bathing cap during his race in the 100m backstroke.
In an interview with FRANCE 24’s Nadia Massih, Al Bawwab expressed his pride in representing Palestine, a country that is not officially recognized by all nations. “It is an honor to raise the Palestinian flag in a country that doesn’t recognize it,” he stated.
Al Bawwab’s dedication to his sport and his country is truly inspiring. By using his platform as an Olympian, he hopes to bring attention to the lack of sports venues in Palestine and work towards building more facilities for future generations of athletes.
As Al Bawwab continues to break barriers and make a name for himself in the world of swimming, his commitment to his country and his fellow athletes shines through. He is not only a talented swimmer, but also a true ambassador for Palestine on the international stage.
