The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has recently come under scrutiny for its decision to strip U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles of her floor exercise bronze medal and award it instead to Romania’s Ana Bărbosu. The controversial ruling stems from a scoring appeal filed by Chiles’ coach, which was deemed to have been submitted too late.
What has sparked further controversy is the revelation that the head of the panel overseeing the dispute has a long history of representing Romania in the world of gymnastics. This has raised questions about the fairness and impartiality of the court’s decision, as it may be seen as biased towards the Romanian athlete.
The decision has left many in the gymnastics community questioning the integrity of the Olympic judging process and calling for more transparency and accountability in future competitions. The case has also sparked discussions about the need for clearer guidelines and protocols when it comes to scoring appeals and medal disputes.
As the fallout from this ruling continues, it serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges that can arise in the world of competitive sports. Athletes and fans alike are left grappling with the consequences of these decisions, and the impact they can have on the athletes’ careers and legacies.

Sad for both gymnasts. I think that it's the most sour medal.
All this is becoming to be politics more than sports in this Olympics. By away, the most disgusting one.
Where is this video of her coach taking 47 seconds to dispute the score? Wouldn't that settle this?
This thing is getting better and better
it's a draw give them both the bronze medal, paris, olympics already a clawster faawk. there rivers will get polluted again. check out the olympics abandoned facilities from the past. dont want to pick on atlanta what happen to the herndon, stadium. there is other countries also
I wonder if the reporter found this information but did not take an interest in what is the way of attack in Lausanne. In Lausanne USA can attack the case only on procedural defects or what was judged in the case. The American press should stop victimizing.
This video is absolutely fantastic! I create historical animations too, and I think you'd really enjoy them. I'd love for you to check them out and let me know what you think!
The issue is with the judging. It was neither athletes fault. It wasn’t the fault of the coaches. The only fair thing to do is let them both have a bronze medal. It’s not like the Olympics have never given out ties before.
I think that only former athletes of that sport should be judged as they not only can catch these errors but also can empathize with the athletes.
That beeping chime sound you use for transitions is so annoying
Such BS. Romania had the bronze medal first. The only “conflict of interest” was the coach’s desperate appeal to the judges.
Yeah I'd say that's totally biased
The IOC just don't want people to keep digging into the idea that the entire event was rigged. Jordan has a Gold and should be proud of that. Sad that her and the Romanian girl can't just both get the bronze.
Romania can kiss my azz. Merica!
A US news article broadcasting and allegedly trying to incite a claim with their headline that there might have been a corruption because one of the panel represented Romania —— well I’m not surprised! Go on guys each on their own making this issue a dirty one
Of course NBC isn't covering the full story.
The judges messed up! The one girl didn’t go out of bounds. Chiles didn’t get scored correctly. They need to go over all the video and restore all the 3,4,5, and 6th place.
That is outrageous!! There is definitely a conflict of interest. They need to give Jordan the medal and do it quickly before they further blemish this sport
Bravo Ana! We are extremely satisfied
Americans can't handle losing a bronze medal, lol. Jordan didn't win the medal in the first place. She took it from Ana.
Sickening!!!!!
It's bronze. It's about 2$ a pound. Can't the IOC afford 2 medals? All this stems from incompetent judging and disputed evidence about the time it took to protest. None of this is either of the athletes fault. So give them both a medal.
The head of panel and the panel needs to be sued. Definitely a conflict of interest. Also the judges as well.
Romania should not have initiated this cheap shot just to fish for a pathetic bronze medal
Remember – Rosia Montana Romania
CAS and IOC being corrupt whaaaaa shocker
I knew there was something racist about this whole thing.
I am not from the US or Romania and I myself can see that the Romanian 🇷🇴 girl is the winner.
US has been for decades a country that has made many claims for medals they rightly feel they deserve it at Olympics and back then the head of the panel was US and nobody said anything about “conflict of interest “
This case is about Romania v FIG, not Romania v USA. Romania accused FIG of accepting late inquiry, not accusing USA of submitting late inquiry. USA was not involved in this case as the defendant.
TERRIBLE! GHARAVI YOU'RE DIRTY AND TAINTED, STEP DOWN NOW FOR THE HONOR OF THE SPORT
You would say anything….😂😂😂😂
Just give them all 3 a bronze and be done with it. It’s not gold and score is so close. Then everyone is happy. Stop fighting…
why in the semi-final of the Olympic games Jordan starts with a degree of difficulty of 5.8 and in the final with 5.9. although he has exactly the same exercise with the same elements?
USA is far from impartial, literally the most unilateral
