Farmers in Wales are up in arms over new inheritance tax changes announced by the UK government, staging a protest in front of the Welsh Labour conference to voice their discontent. The protest saw farmers spanning three generations driving dozens of tractors and farm vehicles into Llandudno, where Prime Minister Boris Johnson was addressing delegates.
The changes announced in the autumn budget state that from April 2026, farms worth more than £1 million will be subject to a 20 per cent tax on the value above that threshold. This is a significant blow for farming families like the Parrys, who have traditionally been able to pass on their property – including land, buildings, and animals – without having to pay any tax.
For decades, farmers have relied on the ability to pass on their estates to future generations without the burden of hefty taxes. The new inheritance tax changes threaten the livelihoods and legacies of these farming families, prompting them to take to the streets in protest.
The Welsh Labour conference served as a platform for farmers to make their voices heard and demand a rethink on the inheritance tax reforms. The protest highlighted the deep-rooted concerns and frustrations within the farming community over the impact of these changes on their way of life.
As the debate around inheritance tax continues, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the outcry from farmers and whether any revisions will be made to address their grievances.

I support our farmers all the way, we can all see how utterly wrong this tax is for our food security and our precious countryside.
Whining farmed most of whom won’t be effected. Farms have to be worth more than £1 million plus their £1 million allowance means that it will only effect those over £2 million. Farming grants need to be cut. No other business gets a grant. This will allow personal tax to be cut. I notice that farmers aren’t whining about the money they are getting for lambs and beef which has skyrocketed. If they can’t cope they can always sell up and the farm can be rented out.

Cretin Starmer runs away via back door.
Shop at farm shops
I think we have fully proven that whatever you protest about, be you right or left, the governments answer, labour or Tory is “ la la la la we’re not listening “. Having said that I wish you all the very best of luck.
Just another murder , our dailh bread now in this rotten country.
full support to them, this WEF UN agenda 2030 satantic ideology must be stopped at any cost before it's too late
I live in Wales & we have an opportunity to rid ourselves of Labour in 18 months. These socialists are not working in the interests of the indigenous British people!
If I was a farmer with kids, I'd pay the kids a wage for work and each year they'd also get a % of the farm. By the time I retire, it'd be theirs.
Happened in Netherlands, the land grab
Why should farmers have special treatment to the rest of us? When my father dies the business and living accommodation which is on the business premises, passes to me and yet I have to pay IT after the first £360,00
Labour and the delinquent followers think they are doing a fantastic job!
Respect to The Farmers
what gives the right to the GOV to Tax people for a death in the family, it's like a sick Joke! there should be no such tax.
make food cheaper then!! they drive vehicles that cost more that 2 homes
Starmer really does love the back door, literally!!! Coward!!!
Eventually "we'll" own nothing (and be happy apparently) so who will own it???
This is nothing more than land grabbing.
Starmer wasn't voted in. The Tories were just voted out. Frying pan to fire unfortunately.
Remove inheritance tax for all.
The government isn't totally stupid because they know they wouldn't get any taxes from the young….but only from the old who'd worked all their lives to save, invest & grow their money.
And stazi starmer ran like a snivelling rat
How many tractors bought with the help of EU subsidies and tax relief??
Well done 🎉 i support you all. 👏
