Quebec Man Sentenced to Jail for Importing 26K Counterfeit $2 Coins from China

A Quebec man has been sentenced to jail time after attempting to smuggle a large number of fake $2 coins into the country. With a total of 26,630 counterfeit toonies imported from China, this scheme is considered one of Canada’s largest counterfeit operations of its kind. Despite his criminal history, the suspect will only spend less than a year behind bars, a decision that has raised concerns among fraud experts who fear it will not be enough to deter others from engaging in similar illegal activities. Touria Izri provides more details on this case.
