A Quebec man has been sentenced to jail time after attempting to smuggle a large number of fake $2 coins into the country. With a total of 26,630 counterfeit toonies imported from China, this scheme is considered one of Canada’s largest counterfeit operations of its kind. Despite his criminal history, the suspect will only spend less than a year behind bars, a decision that has raised concerns among fraud experts who fear it will not be enough to deter others from engaging in similar illegal activities. Touria Izri provides more details on this case.

So i can order 50k fake toonies and if i get caught I might do one year? Whereas if i dont, i get 100k for placing an order and checking my mail? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡
It's almost worth it just to not have to pay income taxes.
They should've just made him promise to spend them all at Loblaw's companies.
the punishment does fit the crime. I believe they should fine him for the amount of coins he tried to import into Canada and if he can’t pay the fine, the Government should put a lean on his property. More like than not processed of his crimes were used to fund his lifestyle any ways. Sending a clear message to those who engage in illegal activities we will take what’s yours.
that's typical with our justice system. The courts are far too lenient on criminals. A stern finger wave is an insufficient deterrent.
Crazy ! Put a garnishment on his wages for the next 15 years.. give it to the homeless problem.
Trudeau's fault. Again
Those are the ones they found, the rest are in circulation.
If his sentence is a joke what about the guys that stole 20 million in gold. They were all released.
Where can I buy these? Asking for a friend
My gf got one,,,when she went to a store in Saskatchewan…looking at it now ya it matches the one on here..what should we do with it ?
If the wrbsite allows it it shouldnt be a crime. If i can buy an otf knife on amazon in canada why am i doing something illegal?
9 months in jail 😂 oh soft canada
Why is Quebec the Wild West of Canada
This is very dangerous here in Canada how we know now, which coins are genuine, which coins are fake. This is very dangerous and I hope that the government will take notice of this. This guy should never got nine years in prison. He should get the maximum penalty, even life in prison.
Wow, how about china that produces these coins? Any consequences to this corrupted country?
Seen people get more for less
If 1 random guy can simply order them from China and they look super legit then imagine what organized crime can do. Tons of things pass straight in through Us and our huge border. Some people get their car stolen they track it with Gps and yet Canada allows them to leave to China without being stopped.
Wow! I bet that will teach all these counterfeiters. Don't f with Canada or you'll get slapped on the hand!
Talk about debasing the currency, in the U.S. we take counterfeiting seriously, with serious jail time, what is going on in Canada???
JEEZUS…how much is spent in government on bloody orange juice @ Claridges in London?
Iykyk
He got a good deal
Dozens of arrests dating back 2 decades regarding fraud and forgery, gets 7 months sentence. Gee, no wonder he's doing what he does.
lol
Well, murderers get out on bail so that isn’t too bad

Why Trudeau running the country to the ground
People tend to do what they are good at
He is simply good at …
No reason to be homeless in this country.
Wow, we need to be tougher on crime 😮
Nine months is ridiculous😡😡😡😡😡
its funny how when a person creates money out of thin air, its a severe crime, but when the government and the BOC do it, its "quantitative easing"
catch and release keeps the judges employed?
