SpaceX Starship Launch 4: Everything That Happened in 12 Minutes
The SpaceX Starship Launch 4 video gives viewers a detailed look at what happened during a 12-minute test flight. The video starts with the Super Heavy booster pitching down range, with 32 out of 33 engines lit. The vehicle successfully passes through Max Q, the maximum aerodynamic pressure, before stage separation. The Starship successfully separates from the booster and continues on its trajectory at a speed faster than the speed of sound.
The booster begins its Boost back burn to return to the Gulf of Mexico, while the ship coasts to an altitude of 214 kilometers. The booster successfully attempts a water landing, while the ship prepares for re-entry and a controlled landing in the Indian Ocean. The ship shuts off its Raptor engines and successfully enters space, with a view of Earth from above.
As the ship re-enters the Earth’s atmosphere, the video shows the plasma building up and the ceramic tiles protecting the ship from extreme heat. Despite some issues with the flaps, the ship continues its descent, ultimately performing a flip maneuver and a landing burn. Although the landing burn shut down was commanded, the video shows that the Landing burn indeed took place, marking a successful test flight for the Starship.
