Ree Drummond’s 5-STAR Tomato Soup 🍅🤩 The Pioneer Woman | Food Network
Tomato soup is a timeless classic that warms the heart and soul, and Ree Drummond’s rendition, touted as The Best Tomato Soup Ever, takes this beloved dish to new heights. This recipe marries simple ingredients with fresh herbs to create a rich and creamy soup that’s ready in just 25 minutes—perfect for busy weeknights or a comforting lunch.
Ingredients
To whip up this delicious soup, you’ll need:
- 1 medium white or yellow onion
- 6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter
- Two 14.5-ounce cans diced tomatoes
- One 46-ounce bottle or can of tomato juice
- 3 to 6 tablespoons sugar (to balance the acidity)
- 1 or 2 tablespoons chicken base (or 3 chicken bouillon cubes)
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup sherry (optional, for a touch of sophistication)
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
Cooking Instructions
-
Prepare the Onion: Start by dicing the onion finely. In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the onion. Sauté the onion until it becomes translucent, allowing its sweet flavors to develop.
-
Incorporate the Tomatoes: Once the onion is ready, add in the diced tomatoes along with their juices. Stir to combine before pouring in the tomato juice, creating a beautifully vibrant base for your soup.
-
Tame the Acidity: Tomatoes can be quite acidic, so to achieve the perfect balance, add 3 to 6 tablespoons of sugar. Start on the lower side and taste as you go, adjusting to your preference. This simple step transforms the flavor profile remarkably!
-
Enhance with Chicken Base: Stir in the chicken base or bouillon cubes. Be cautious with the quantity; a little goes a long way, and too much can overpower the soup.
-
Season Generously: Add freshly ground black pepper to taste to enhance the overall flavor. Heat the mixture until it almost reaches a boil, then turn off the heat.
-
Finish with Cream and Herbs: For a luscious texture, stir in the cream until well combined. If desired, incorporate the sherry, which adds a lovely depth. Finally, fold in the chopped basil and parsley for a burst of fresh flavor.
Serving Suggestions
Ladle this comforting soup into bowls and enjoy it as is, or serve it with a side of crispy grilled cheese sandwiches for a classic pairing. This recipe serves 6 to 8, making it an ideal dish for family gatherings or cozy evenings.
Conclusion
Ree Drummond’s 5-STAR Tomato Soup is more than just a meal; it’s a warm hug on a chilly day. With its elegant creaminess and robust flavor, it’s sure to impress even the pickiest of taste buds. Give it a try, and experience the rich, comforting goodness of this delightful recipe!

5 STAR ⭐️ TOMATO 🍅 SOUP 🍜
I loved this video of food network that is a awesome place and a very informative video on how to it all goes so well together with this amazing program of videos on how we make it better for everyone to watch it
Oops. She did it again…
What can I use as a replacement for the sherry? Nonalcoholic.
They make battery operated pepper mills.
Sherry is it real or is it cooking Sherry. The cooking one I can't stand it's nasty
All that cream 😳. Definitely sounds delicious but certainly only for special occasions.
Big deal. 900 people is nothing 😂
Thank you 💜 I saving this video because tomato soup is my favorite thing for winter. There is not many recipes for tomato soup and this looks delicious and easy to make for us non chef skills 🤣🤣
I have to try this. It looks like it will be delicious, and I love tomato anything. One great thing about her recipes is (I think) they are very well tested – because everyone of them I've tried come out great.
No one would know who this amateur cook is had her rich husband not bought her way on TV. 🙄🥴🙅♂️🤦♂️🤷♂️
👨🍳🔪👍
Sounds yummy. We love tomato soup. I’ve never used Sherry tho hhhmmmm I doubt if I’ll do that. It might change the flavor we love. I doubt not care for liquor
Beer Cheese Soup is my favorite!
I tried this recipe a few years ago and did not like it at all..the sherry just overpowered the soup, we simply could not eat it, epic fail for me!!…maybe if you are thinking of making this one then try with just a 1/4 cup of sherry to start…or none at all.
Looks lovely but the canned tomato juice and bouillon results in at least 1100 mgs of sodium per 6-8 oz serving.
This tomato soup looks so good. I used to make cream of mushroom soup with adding sherry to this, I can’t wait to make this.
