Why You’ll Love This Recipe
This dish captures the essence of home cooking, combining fresh ingredients and a quick preparation method. With just one skillet required, cleanup is a breeze! The harmony of clams, garlic, and a touch of heat from red pepper flakes creates a delectable sauce that clings to the spaghetti and tantalizes the taste buds.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 12 ounces whole wheat spaghetti
- One 6.5-ounce can of chopped clams (with juices)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh oregano leaves (plus extra for garnish)
- 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes (plus extra for garnish)
- 4 cloves garlic, sliced
- 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
- Kosher salt
- 2 cups baby spinach
- 1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- Freshly ground black pepper
Cooking Instructions
-
Prepare the Base: In a large high-sided skillet, combine the spaghetti, chopped clams with their juices, olive oil, oregano leaves, crushed red pepper, garlic, onion, and a generous pinch of salt.
-
Boil and Cook: Add 4 1/2 cups of water to the mixture and bring it to a boil. Stir frequently with tongs, allowing the spaghetti to cook until it reaches an al dente texture, roughly 9 to 10 minutes. By this time, most of the liquid should evaporate and thicken, enveloping the pasta.
-
Incorporate Greens and Cheese: Once the spaghetti is cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. Fold in the baby spinach, grated Parmesan, and butter, tossing everything together until well combined.
- Season and Serve: Adjust the seasoning with freshly ground black pepper and more salt as needed. Serve the dish garnished with additional oregano leaves and crushed red pepper flakes for a touch of vibrant color and flavor.

I love linguine with clams! I think I would use two cans of clams!
I’m glad that is your version of spaghetti with clam sauce. Our ancestors are turning in their graves! 😂Bur I like ke the gesture of something different 😊
This is a decent recipe from TPL. I usually don’t like a lot her stuff, b/c it relies on a lot pre-packaged , canned or frozen stuff I just don’t keep on hand, but this one features whole wheat pasta and tins of fresh veggies and herbs…what’s not to love?
Great recipe! Convenient and fast, but still healthy.
(I often just go ahead and sautée my onions & garlic in the bottom of the big pot with a couple tbsps olive oil separately, before adding all the other stuff in, after they’ve “sweated out,” but you can totally do it this way, too; even faster ✔️)
Not nearly enough clams. I prefer using canned whole baby clams. At least 2 12 Oz cans of whole baby clams per 1lb of pasta.
I think I’m gonna hurl.
Instead of all that water, how about 1 or 2 jars of clam juice ? Just a thought.
Yes, it looks so good. But I would have also used two cans of clams. Then your tasting clams in every fork full. 😊❤
The spinach is throwing me off, I would use parsley instead
Clams contain asbestos.
This one-pot clam spaghetti looks like comfort in a bowl the briny clams, tender pasta, and that buttery sauce felt so grounding just watching it. It reminded me of a passage from Youth Protocol by Dr Tessa Voss, how simple, intentional meals can nourish both body and spirit over time. There’s real beauty in cooking with presence like this.
What brand is the yellow pot?
GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSss EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Overcooked pasta with uncooked onion, gummy clams and in the end… spinach . Could it get worse? Yes! Cheese!!!
