Russia claims Azerbaijan Airlines flight diverted due to fog and Ukrainian drone alert

The Russia aviation watchdog has revealed new information regarding the Azerbaijan Airlines flight that crashed in Kazakhstan earlier this week. According to Rosaviatsia, the plane decided to divert from its original destination due to dense fog and a local alert about Ukrainian drones. Despite being offered alternative Russian airports to land at, the captain chose to head to Aktau, Kazakhstan. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with the Kremlin stating that they have nothing further to add at this time.

One passenger on the doomed flight, Vafa Shabanova, described the terrifying experience saying, “About 20 or 30 minutes after takeoff, we felt two explosions. The plane was supposed to land, but it didn’t. Something exploded inside twice. A man’s hand was injured. We panicked.” The details shared by Shabanova shed light on the chaos and fear that ensued during the flight.

In response to the crash, Azerbaijan Airlines has suspended flights to several Russian cities and suggested that the cause of the crash was due to “physical and technical external interference.” The airline is conducting its own investigation into the incident as the aviation community seeks to uncover the truth behind the tragic event. As more information comes to light, the aviation industry will continue to analyze and assess the factors that led to the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines flight in Kazakhstan.
