Samsung Galaxy XR Hands-On: Gemini on Your Face for Half the Price of the Vision Pro
Samsung Galaxy XR Hands-On: Gemini on Your Face for Half the Price of the Vision Pro
In the rapidly evolving world of extended reality (XR), Samsung has made a bold entry with its Galaxy XR, currently available for $1,800 in the U.S. and South Korea. This hybrid headset merges virtual reality with advanced passthrough capabilities, positioning itself between the now-discontinued MetaQuest Pro and Apple’s Vision Pro. A standout feature is its Gemini AI, which adeptly integrates information from both the app world and the real environment, heralding a new era of multimodal experiences.
With software compatibility covering millions of Android apps, the Galaxy XR focuses on optimized performance for platforms like Netflix and YouTube, offering immersive content viewing experiences. Enhanced features also include Google Maps’ 3D navigational tools and Adobe’s cutting-edge video editing applications.
Weighing less than its counterparts, the Galaxy XR promises user comfort with its adjustable fit. Notably, it supports prescription lenses for those who typically wear glasses. While Samsung and Google hint at an expansive ecosystem that may link this device with future wearables, the current offering targets both casual users and enterprise applications.
As a gateway into the future of XR, the Samsung Galaxy XR presents a compelling option for tech enthusiasts looking for accessibility and innovation without the hefty price tag of competitors. Stay tuned for a comprehensive review diving deeper into its capabilities.

i wouldnt say i dont care about the weight of vr googles but the galaxy xr does not look very comfortable wearing for example in bed or at the couch watching movies or something like that. i think thats what the sololoop and the new dualloop band from the AVP shines.
this thing is better than the apple vision pro it's cheaper lighter more premium and plus galaxy ecosystem built in I'm gonna buy one soon this thing looks sick
$1800 affordable lol. I guess my fold 7 was affordable…
When Samsung made the vr goggles years ago I thought they had it. You just put your phone in it and bam, you were there. Considering how ahead of those were these seem like a big, expensive yawn. Oh yeah and you could use your glasses in those too…
3:00 Samsung and Apple? Is that what you just said?
? Did i miss something? Meta quest does all of this since 4 years
Privacy?
I’m waiting on the glasses to come out , I can game on and watch movies etc. until then I’m chill with the meta quest 3 . All I mainly do is watch Big screen beta vr anyways
its useless
4k 60 looks buttery smooth. You should publish all your videos at that quality
we know we thinking the same thing 😏
the future for sure , VR / XR !!!!!
Honestly it looks cheap, because it is cheaper. Apple’s is perhaps not worth its price but these two aren’t competition. The future will be fun.
How is the FOV? Most important info missed
people buy these things still? don't see many apps or games and vr headsets exist for years. Am I missing something?
I wish all headsets with ai didn't make me feel like a test subject.
This will never appeal to the mass market. Miniaturize it into glasses and you’ll have a huge hit.
Sorry but Apple made Samsung waste money on an already dead market. Meta learned the hard way no one wants to be completed immersed. We want glasses not a headset.
Due to the price point, I feel these will fail. Apple's didn't fail not just because of support problems, but also because of the price tag. While yes this is cheaper, it's still a lot especially when you have Meta, even AR glasses that can do almost everything these do.
quest 3s costs 250$. sure the display is worse, but it doesnt have the stupid external battery.
1800 with no controllers included? 🤣 will flop even worse than AVP
Congratulations on the video. I watch all the videos focusing on playing games or watching photos, videos and movies. But what about productivity? Did they get a good 3-screen experience to work with the Google ecosystem (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Meet, Creating and editing photos in Nano Banana and Veo3,) using Gemini to help you with tasks?
For me this is what will differentiate and justify the immersion of the Headsets of the smart glasses (Rayban Meta) that you go out on the street.
