Save the Children International reports that child deaths account for nearly 40% of all fatalities in Gaza.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has resulted in a devastating number of child fatalities, accounting for approximately 40% of all deaths in the region. Save the Children International has reported that out of the 37,500+ estimated deaths in Gaza, a staggering number are children.

According to a representative from the children’s rights charity, at least 17,000 children are currently unaccompanied or separated from their surviving family members. Additionally, it is believed that around 4,000 children are trapped under the rubble caused by the conflict. Save the Children’s child protection teams are calling for urgent action to safeguard these vulnerable children, a task made even more challenging by the escalating security situation in Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have been occupying parts of Gaza in an effort to dismantle Hamas, following attacks on southern Israel that resulted in numerous casualties. The impact of this conflict on the children of Gaza is expected to be profound, affecting them both physically and mentally for generations to come.

The toll of the violence in Gaza serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for international intervention to protect innocent civilians, especially the most vulnerable members of society – children. Save the Children International’s efforts to provide support and assistance to the children of Gaza are crucial in mitigating the long-term effects of this devastating conflict.
