Just days before kicking off her series of 12 concerts in Madrid, Shakira announced new details on Tuesday (Sept. 8) about what will take place around her residency — part of the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour — which starts on Sept. 18 at Iberdrola Music.
Under the name Es Latina, the programming will span four weekends and feature performances by Amaia, Aria Vega, Gale, Guitarricadelafuente, Lia Kali, Louta, Maro, Nathy Peluso, Santos Bravos and Yerai Cortés. Emerging artists such as Iza Tkm, Ángeles Toledano, J Noa, Nico and Yapi, as well as artists from Benidorm Fest, will also perform.
The performances of the artists featured in Es Latina will take place across two stages within Macondo Park, a space specially built for the occasion. The park will also host a museum dedicated to Shakira, featuring never-before-seen materials from her career, selected by the artist herself. This programming is parallel to Shakira’s own shows, with her onstage guests yet to be announced.
Literature will have its own dedicated space, showcasing the works of Gabriel García Márquez and some of the books that have inspired the singer. There will also be conversations with authors and a book club. Fashion, art, dance and gastronomy will round out the planned activities surrounding the concerts.
In a press release, Shakira explained why she wanted to bring together Spanish and Latin American artists in Madrid. “We share a language, memory, gestures and moments together,” she said. “The Atlantic, between us, stopped being an ocean a long time ago. It’s a bond.”
Shakira’s residency is scheduled for Sept. 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27 and 28, and Oct. 1, 2 and 3. Macondo Park will be open from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. (local time), while Shakira’s concerts are set to take place from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. (local time), allowing attendees to explore the space before and after each show.
After the concerts, programming will continue with a carnival at Macondo Plaza, though further details about this event have yet to be revealed. More information about Es Latina will be available on the official social media channels for the event.
