"Take No Guff": Eby on Carney’s Meeting with Trump Amid Tariff Threats
In a bold show of support for British Columbia’s film industry, Premier David Eby addressed a press conference Monday, responding to U.S. President Donald Trump’s alarming tariff threats directed at foreign films. Trump’s recent post on his Truth Social platform raised eyebrows when he declared his authorization of a staggering 100 percent tariff on movies produced outside the United States. This announcement has set off waves of concern among Canadian filmmakers and industry stakeholders who rely on cross-border collaboration and commerce.
Eby underscored the importance of preserving the integrity and viability of the B.C. film sector, emphasizing that any attempt to undermine it through punitive tariffs would be met with vigorous opposition. The imminent meeting between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Trump on Tuesday is seen as a crucial opportunity for Canada to assert its interests and defend its cultural industries.
During the press conference, Eby made it clear that Carney should “take no guff” in discussions with the U.S. president, advocating for a firm stance that embodies Canada’s sovereignty. The premier’s comments reflect a growing consensus among Canadian leaders: that it is vital to address these tariff threats head-on to ensure the future of the film industry, which plays a significant role in the economy and in cultural representation.
As tensions rise, the outcome of Carney’s discussions with Trump could have profound implications for the Canadian film landscape. Eby’s passionate defense serves as a rallying cry for unity among those in the industry, reminding filmmakers and artists that their work is not just a product but a vital part of Canada’s identity. The stakes have never been higher, and the coming days will reveal how effectively Canada can advocate for its interests on the international stage.

Tell tRump the POSITIVE that has existed w/Canada for years in detail. And if he starts talking poop, (As usual) do what he does and change the ssubject and go back to positive. If he's still pulling the crazy bulldog 3 year old crap give him both barrels of Canada's best. Sigh. Why'd those idiots elect him?
Obviously Canada must be blocking and/or tariffing our entertainment.
We know about your ridiculous content laws on radio stations, etc……
Hollywood needs to make better common sense movies or stay Woke and go broke!!!
Canada staing Woke is a joke.
To All Endless Unconditional Peace and Love:)
❤❤❤
Proud you standing o your own 😊
boomers ruined Canada. you guys are screwed, lol
I mean, it is a lot to ask, i guess. Fair and / or free seems simple but canada wants a big brother to pay the way. We are willing to keep protecting you, just dont bend us over while you are hiding behind us.
Canada's Sovereignty is NOT negotiable today and it will never be.❤💯💪
In my opinion, eby, like Carney stole the election, I've lost All trust hope and faith in Canada , now a doomed to fail post national state from hell where our children's future has been sold out..
I wouldnt doubt that Eby and his party will use the loss of revenue from the film industry to shift the blame to Trump for their next failed budget.
Trump keeps on losing 😂
Eby says "to say the implementation would be challenging is an understatement" made me laugh. Every government in Canada, especially BC, has been dreaming up new ways to tax normal citizens. And they have been extremely successful sucking taxpayers dry with creative taxes. As if the US doesn't have people who could dream up a way of tariffing/taxing (or whatever you want to call it) film production in Canada is a joke. Think Canada's digital service tax.
Carney will 💯 take the Guff and say thank you may i have another?! Muahahaha 😂
Let's freely trade films made everywhere but the US. I am sure I am not the only person who would love to see Chinese films. Like Trump the US film industry is sunsetting (a symptom of dementia). Trump is a thug who does not see his country and its status clearly. He is like the drunk uncle no one wants to invite to their wedding. He believes he can defeat us by being an obnoxious brat. Don't let no-deal Trump get away with any crap. Just walk out if he is being rude. We Canadians will support you.
Canada stays strong 🇨🇦💪🇨🇦💪🇨🇦
Remember Canada is going to partner with Europe, don’t need the US. Why is carney going to meet trump then.
If he gives trump any little gain even the smallest amount he will call it a biggly win. He's so predictable.
Eby yep have everyone carry the same message and I know your mad enough to do this.
So tired of the lumber industry talk. Canada has destroyed the US lumber industry. The US forests are a tinder box and need to be managed as they have been neglected for 40 years. Im a general contractor in the US and buy lumber everyday, yes the price will go up but in the long run it'll go down and our forests will be managed. 1/3 of the US is forest. The Canadian lumber could be used to build houses, lets say for Canadians as it sounds there is a shortage of them.
Stay strong …..he will not make …..congestive heart failure will catch up fast….the rest will chicken dance……
This channel and your expository teachings has been my major drive, and that's why with $45,000 weekly returns I was able to live my life-long dreams of sending food emissaries to Food banks, and also support local restaurants here in Louisiana.
many of the BC programs are very dark and sinister… not watching anymore
Carney is going to get rolled…. 😬😬😬😬😬
What a weak leader. Pittyfull! You deserve what you get, voting in the NDP to run your Provience BC.
Trump is a total nut ball !!!
Would someone remind Trump that it was canada who painted the While house white. Maybe we should paint a red maple leaf on it now.
Alberta, you are welcome as the 51rst state.
Everyone talks tough when they are going to meet Trump but Trump always walks away with the better deal. So go ahead and stand tall with you elbow out and we can all wait to seee what happens.
