60 minutes is about how long this network has to live
The fact is, if there is a nuclear war, it will be the US that will do the first strike…guarantee!
Nothing can compare with china' s and russia' s technology now.!
The us is trailing way behind .no way it can surpass the 2 giants.!
I served on an Ohio class Trident Sub in the 1980s. We were replacing a hodge podge of Polaris boats originally designed as Sculpin class boats into our first SSBNs years after the Soviets built their first SSBN. 5 different US SSBN classes from Polaris to Posiden 640 class backfited with the newer Trident 1 C4 a more advanced Posiden missile in throw weight and range. These 41 SSBNs of 5 different classes were obsolete by 1980 having been built between 1959 and 1975. Replacing 41 ships with mixed missile classes of 16 misslies each from Polaris A3 with 3 triangulated warheads yeilding 1mega ton to Posidon with up to 14 60kt warheads at slightly longer range of 2500mi. to the latter Posiden 640 class bakefited with Trident 1C4 with 8 100kt warheads at 4500 mile range all replaced by 1 class of Ohio class sub carrying 24 Trident 2-D5 missile with a max warhead payload of 8 W88 variable yield warheads from 10kt to 450kt depending on its target is a superior option to replace 5 old classes of 41 SSBNs. 41 SSBNs X 16 mixed load missiles = 656 missiles of mixed types and ranges, many forward deployed from Holy Lock Scottland and Guam replaced by 24 Ohio Trident Subs with 24 missiles all the same and 24 new Subs x 24 Trident 2-D5 variable yield missles = 576 home ported in Washington State and Georgia instead of overseas. That is 17 fewer SSBNs carrying 80 fewer missiles but those 80 fewer missiles are far more accurate and all the same.
By 1992 we stopped building the Ohio Trident subs at 18 ships, reduced 18 to 14 SSBNs byconverting the first 4 Ohios at refueling to non nuclear Tomahak cruise missiles as SSGNs and reduced foolishly the 14 Trident missile boats to carrying 20 missiles with 4 warheads each. That is a massive reduction of Deturence all while China is escalating its nuclear missiles and Russia is doing the same. Madness! The Columbia Replacement SSBN for the aging Ohio will be limited to 16 missiles and 12 ships while China and Russia will outnumber us 2 to 1.
60minutes is leftst trash both then and now.
The Russians have never removed its tactical nuclear weapons from its Ships while the US has putting the US at a huge disadvantage in a war. A tactical nuclear torpedo or anti fleet missile could easilly sink a Carrier task force and China has the same, but we in the US have chosen to abide by a treaty with Russia from the 1990s that is no longer valid.
We treated Soviet sailors with more respect and dignity than we are the father of two Marines who is undocumented… think on that.
Sixty. Minutes should questions the lazy and non performers in our country. The US government has a duty to defend the United States. The costs are the costs of freedom. I despise their line of questioning and illogical liberal bent.
Good show
Someone PLEASE call her a WAAAAHHHMMBULANCE!😮😅😂
This was initially interesting, but I stopped watching after it became obvious this was geared more toward making political statements and less toward giving history or interesting facts about submarines.
31:30 nice round number skipper, thanks.
