At least 29 people are believed to have survived a harrowing plane crash near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan after an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 jet was forced to make an emergency landing. The aircraft was en route from Baku to Grozny in the Chechnya region of Russia when it collided with a flock of birds, causing it to crash and burst into flames.
According to Kazakhstan’s emergencies ministry, there were a total of 62 passengers and five crew members on board the ill-fated flight. Despite the tragic circumstances, emergency services were able to rescue 29 survivors from the wreckage, with 22 already taken to hospital for treatment.
The crash site, located approximately 1.8 miles outside of Aktau, was quickly attended to by emergency responders who were able to extinguish the fire. Reports indicate that the aircraft had been diverted due to fog in Grozny, leading to the emergency landing in Kazakhstan.
