A devastating storm wreaked havoc on British Columbia’s South Coast, leaving several people dead and widespread damage in its wake. Among the victims was a Coquitlam school teacher whose house was destroyed by a mudslide. The destruction caused by the storm is particularly evident in two North Vancouver neighborhoods, Deep Cove and Woodlands, where numerous homes sustained significant damage. Residents in these areas are now faced with a daunting cleanup process that could take weeks and come with a hefty price tag.
In addition to the tragic loss of life in Coquitlam, one person is confirmed dead and another is presumed dead after two vehicles were discovered submerged between Port Alberni and Bamfield on Vancouver Island. RCMP are cautioning against attempting to cross flooded roads, as the risks are high during extreme weather events like this one. The intense storm has left a trail of destruction across several areas on Vancouver Island, requiring a coordinated response from emergency services.
Global News reporters Emily Lazatin, Alissa Thibault, and Kylie Stanton have been on the ground providing comprehensive coverage of the aftermath of the destructive storm. The extent of the damage and the challenges faced by residents in affected communities are highlighted in their reporting. As British Columbia grapples with the aftermath of this catastrophic event, it is crucial to prioritize support for those who have been impacted by the storm.

Prayers& condolences for the family, so hearbreaking❤RIP Ms. McIntyre.
I feel your pain of loss as western North Carolina deals with massive loss from Hurricane Helene. People are still missing three weeks later. Condolence from Charlotte, NC.
So sad! A teacher.
Wall of water and mud. Blessings on her and her friends, colleagues and family.😢
RIP to this innocent victim
So, 11 minutes of reporting on record breaking rains and the tragic results of it and not a single mention of the driver/cause of these extreme precipitation events; the increased heat trapped in our atmosphere by our burning of fossil fuels. Warmer temperatures evaporate more moisture and warmer air can hold more moisture – until it does not.
It is no wonder that 45 % of voters voted for a party whose leader and followers deny the seriousness of global heating and are instead fixated on making burning fossil fuels cheaper.
Murdered by geoengineered weather warfare.
Sad that she lost her life. Condolences to the family. 💔💔
Living in the mudslides of BC may not be the prime real estate it used to be. Too much logging? Where are your schools located?
Why in the world would he bd walking his dog in that kind of weather
Another victim of fossil fuel companies and the inaction of governments everywhere. Greed killed her.
Incredible loss for so many I’m sure. Sending love to all those affected.
So sad.. R.I.P you will be Rememberd Sonia.. Heartfelt Condolences to her students and family 🌟✌️😔💞
