A Toronto landlord is facing a frustrating situation as his tenant has not paid $41,600 in rent for their condo apartment in Etobicoke. Narinder Singh, who purchased the property as an investment for retirement, says that the tenant, Deeqa Rafle, has only paid sporadically since 2020. Additionally, Rafle also owes $5,249.35 in unpaid utilities. Despite this significant amount owed, Singh is unable to evict Rafle from the 32nd-floor apartment.
The situation highlights the challenges that landlords face when dealing with non-paying tenants. Singh, who worked hard for decades to save for his retirement, now finds himself unable to collect the rent owed to him. The frustration is palpable as Rafle continues to live in the apartment without fulfilling her financial obligations.
Global News reporter Sean O’Shea provides further details on this ongoing issue. The landlord-tenant relationship is a complex one, with legal processes in place to protect the rights of both parties. However, cases like this one shed light on the difficulties that landlords can encounter when tenants fail to pay rent.
As the situation unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of communication and awareness of tenant rights and responsibilities. Landlords must navigate the legal system carefully when dealing with non-paying tenants, as eviction processes can be lengthy and challenging. In the meantime, Narinder Singh continues to face the financial burden of a tenant who has not paid $41,600 in rent.

Canada is joke….an absolute joke.
I feel so bad for this landlord. No one should go through that. 41k in rent? That’s insane.
Rental boards and eviction laws fall under provincial jurisdiction. Ottawa has nothing to do with it.
Sad to say but this is not a place I selected in 1999 to immigrate. Becoming worst every day
Sometimes accidents happen
Ahhh cultural enrichment!
She's Somali instead of going to the tenant board. Just go to the Somali

Worlds smallest violin playing for this 'canadian'
investors greed causing this problem not tenants , so please don't give tenants a bad name.
I’m a landlord been one for 10 years. Your screening and vetting process has to be A1 and don’t be so hungry for the down payment. Interview and ask the tenant many questions before the get the keys. I’m a firm believer though people know which landlord to do this to. Can’t show no sign of weakness.
Mr. Ditkovitch : This is a free country, not a rent-free country.

Canada's back……
The law was designed this way because the provincial government doesn't want the responsibility of housing any evicted tenants. So they pass on that responsibility to homeowners instead.
We’re are the lawyers?
Class action lawsuit will fix this and force Change!

Terrible landlord tenant laws in Canada.
