Tensions escalated in Beirut as the Israeli military targeted what it claims to be “Hezbollah’s financial arm”. Explosions were reported in Beirut’s southern suburb, near Lebanon’s only international airport. The Israeli military accuses the financial services group, “al-Qard al-Hassan”, of funneling money to Hezbollah and has announced plans to target the institution across Lebanon.
The Bekka Valley branch of al-Qard al-Hassan in East Lebanon was among the buildings hit in the recent strikes. The financial institution, which has 31 branches throughout the country, including 15 in densely populated areas of central Beirut and its suburbs, has drawn the ire of Israeli forces. As a result, residents living near the branches have started leaving the area.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has once again erupted, with both sides engaging in violent clashes. The situation remains tense as both parties continue to exchange attacks. The latest developments in Beirut have left residents on edge, unsure of what the future holds in this volatile region.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr is on the ground in Beirut reporting on the latest events. As the situation unfolds, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for a de-escalation of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
