Summary:
The Family Secret is a compelling exploration of loyalty, morality, and the lengths one might go to protect loved ones. Blending the atmospheric intrigue of film noir with the tension of courtroom drama, this film presents a narrative that grips from beginning to end.
The story centers on a law student, played by John Derek, who finds himself in an unforeseen predicament. After a fateful encounter results in the accidental death of a man during an act of self-defense, his father, portrayed by the formidable Lee J. Cobb, is thrust into an ethical quandary. As a distinguished attorney, he must navigate the murky waters of the law while grappling with his role as a father. This dual conflict of professional duty and parental instinct creates a layered tension that is characteristic of classic noir cinema.
The film excels in its portrayal of moral ambiguity, showcasing the often-blurry lines between right and wrong. As the plot unfolds, viewers are drawn into a maze of decisions that threaten to dismantle the family’s bonds. With sharp dialogue and a slow-burning intensity, The Family Secret captivates audiences, making it a noteworthy entry in the realm of classic legal dramas.
In a world where the stakes are high and the consequences are dire, this under-the-radar thriller stands out as a poignant reminder of the complexities of familial love and responsibility. For fans of gritty narratives and intricate character studies, The Family Secret is an essential watch that promises to leave a lasting impression.

I'm nostalgic for the times with less regulation . Being a non smoker all my life I'm grateful , on the other hand , that you can't smoke in restaurants . Growing up , my father smoked between courses at big dinners at home , drove me nuts . On the other hand , it's better to have freedoms , take your responsibility , but respecting others : seatbelts, smoking , speeding , drugs ( in the right place ) etc. Instead , today , we have the governments putting shit in our food , in the sky , in medicines , in our kids …
Campbell's soup , for heaven's sake…
Questa volta almeno crediti giusti. Qui bisogna stare attenti ad ogni momento..
I love those elegant clothes and the way everyone is so well groomed! Today in the supermarket I saw two people (not together) shopping in their pyjamas. 😢
Poor david. Typical yt culture. The stain of injustices soaks the flags of every nation.
Moral of the story— the truth will set you free 🕊️

Truth??
In past and future generations 🤔
A very powerful analogy of human nature avoiding responsibility 👏
I dont see servants in the background
I see themselves in the perspective of a different time
Not a time too long gone to forget .
Their waiting serving in house 🏠 family….👪, not seen as being family
Servicing the family with food , cleansheets , coffee spirits ,or tea
Looking after them all without the family realising their dependence on services. 😊

Thank for posting it, love old and clean movies ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯👋👋
Well what a gem. Everything worked despite it being slightly unbelievable which Hollywood was. (It's now desirable) The script was excellent, casting perfect, the entire production as I said was a gem. These films mean a lot because of my immobility life can be excruciatingly difficult at times. Having access to movies like this helps the difficult nights. Also a little whiskey helps. 🥃 thank you sincerely from London
What an awesome movie!!
Wow it wasn't until the scene @26:55 I realized from his voice that it was "Joshua" the Hebrew stone cutter from the film The Ten Commandments. Smile Blessings
Excellent.
Routine #3, alone, cannot prevail against a quality, spirited defense #3.
It’s so refreshing to watch a great movie with no cussing all the way through it.
The whole family was a bunch of crooks. Withholding evidence, lies, accessories to the death of the man they knew was innocent. Disgusting family hiding under a disguise of decency and good citizenship.
❤❤❤❤
👍 thank you very much .
3:23What a boss telly! Such a clear picture, too. Try filming a T.V. show these days.🙄
1:04:02$65 in 1951 would be $794.18 as of O4/O4/2O25.🤑💲
When was this movie made.
In real life, Howard Clark would be disbarred — or at least suspended from the bar — for doing what he did. A lawyer cannot act as defense counsel for a defendant whose potential conviction he has a personal interest in.
It's a good movie, though, even though its premise is completely unrealistic.
John Derek had Elvis hair, before Elvis
❤
John Derek, such a handsome man..And he married such a beautiful woman Bo Derek..
I just love those old movies❤❤ 💋
Came here to escape the real world. Thanks!
Excellent, thanks ❤
Her casually driving a hot rod is awesome 😄
Can't believe he (John Derek) told the secretary that she looked like she could use a little exercise… just in spots… This day and time she would have whopped him one! LOL.. Good movie, however, and thank you for posting.
thought provoking, what is honorable, great movie
Nohing beats old 40s and 50s movies in black and white! ❤
