In the chilling depths of Antarctica, beneath the frozen surface, the water hovers around a relatively mild minus two degrees Celsius. While this may seem cold to us, it’s considered a balmy environment compared to the icy exterior. However, lurking dangers from above can sometimes descend upon the ocean floor, bringing with it a lethal touch that freezes everything it comes in contact with.
The phenomenon known as the ‘Finger of Death’ is showcased in the documentary series ‘Earth’s Great Seasons’ by BBC Earth. The chilling effect of this deadly touch can be witnessed as it descends upon unsuspecting marine life, transforming the once serene underwater world into a frozen wasteland.
Narrated by Andrew Scott, the series explores the unique challenges and opportunities presented by each season on our planet. From the burst of new life in spring to the abundance of summer, and the spectacular transformations of autumn, each season brings its own set of trials and tribulations for the inhabitants of the natural world. Winter, in particular, stands out as the most magical and dramatic season of all, as animals must find innovative ways to survive the harsh conditions.
With over 50 years of captivating natural history content, BBC Earth continues to captivate audiences with its breathtaking and thought-provoking documentaries. Featuring rare and exclusive footage, the series delves into the wonders and beauty of our planet, showcasing the endless stories that nature has to offer.
From the mesmerizing sights of Arctic wildlife to the heart-pounding animal fights, BBC Earth takes viewers on a journey like no other. Ultimately, nature doesn’t get more exciting than the thrill of watching Earth’s Great Seasons unfold before our very eyes.

Do you guys think there is a lot of ego down there?

Damn, nature…
Nature at its best
i learned about brinicles because of the game "subnautica: below zero" .. if you get too close to them, you freeze lol
wait, sea urchin can "walk"????
HA! JOKES ON YOU ICE. YOU'RE GOING EXTINCT IN A FEW DECADES!
Aokiji…
I pity most those starfish and whatever those spike balls are, who seemed able to struggle for a few moments, or even try to cross or, worst of all, seemed unaware and entered the river as it formed instead of running like others.
is this AI?
touches the seafloor 🧐Aokiji has been here
Neat!

0:56–1:05 How can being in ocean water be warmer than being in the surface?!
It would be awesome if somehow, if you swam under the ice. The background music would also on. It has that peaceful exploratory tone.
스폰지밥: 뚱이야!!!!! 안돼에에에에에에에!!!!
Looks like a CGI to me. 😮
Finger Of Death I heard is out on their summer tour
Do you want to build a snowman?
The eerie music, the camera works… this is much better than hollywood movies
My ex could do this with her fingers.
How can all this be true if you have the BBC and other European channels and countries screaming Climate Change? The North Pole ice caps are supposed to melt by 2017!! ??? What Happened.
Sound the Octo-Alert!
Its like in the cartoons, water under water, except this is nature reminding us she is alive and can be deadly.
On a funner note I would love to watch how they do Foley for nature documentaries
That’s like something out of a goddamn movie oh my god
my goodness is that andrew scott’s voice i hear??????
edit: i checked it is 😌
Poor Patrick
NOOOO NOT THE STARFISH 😭
Al Gore said this would all melt? This is all propaganda, how dare you?
This is a repost from years ago
That is some wild stuff. Love the underwater timelapse stuff.
سبحان االلہ
So the cameraman survived 😅
Why has BBC replaced David Attenborough's voice over on this?
i remember the first time i i wathed this docu on tv. really welcomed new way to film docu, i barely understand how much difficult and expensive and experienced need to be to film it. amazing
This is so typically human … filming something just so you can "report" on it while allowing the affected animals and flora to die. Just disgusting.
did you pour liquid nitrogen into the ocean for this video?
So if Antarctica loses and gains 50% of its ice each year, how come we don't have sea level rise and retreat on other continents? I've been told all my life that if the ice caps melt we're all under water, yet here they are melting by 50% and there is no change in sea level. 🤷🏻
the horror…. the horror
and you complain about rush hour traffic!
That ice finger of death was awesome and so was the speeded up time lapse footage !!
A bustling city of sea life that was suddenly trapped in ice. It was like watching something from a Marvel Universe movie.
ABC would have a different version, no ice and death everywhere
Am pretty sure the US military is looking into how to weaponize this
Gaaaayyy! Wooo!
