The Island Where Elephants and Humans Live Side by Side: A Harmonious Future
In the lush, vibrant landscapes of Sri Lanka, a tale of coexistence unfolds—one that reveals the delicate balance between human habitation and the majestic presence of elephants. In the latest episode of the groundbreaking docuseries Guardians, produced in collaboration with The Royal Foundation’s United for Wildlife programme, viewers are introduced to a critical narrative about conservation, community, and the challenges faced by these magnificent creatures.
As the wild habitats of Sri Lanka are increasingly transformed by modern development, elephants find themselves navigating a rapidly changing world. The encroachment of human activity has heightened the risk of conflicts between these gentle giants and local communities. Yet, amidst these challenges, hope thrives. Chinthaka, a dedicated ranger, leads a team committed to protecting the elephants, exploring innovative solutions that promote harmony between nature and humanity.
Through their efforts, they are not just safeguarding an endangered species but are also fostering awareness and understanding within the local populace. By utilizing mapping technologies and community engagement, Chinthaka and his team envision a future where elephants and humans can live together, benefiting from each other’s presence rather than leading to inevitable clashes.
Guardians goes beyond mere wildlife documentary; it serves as a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings. It sheds light on the urgent need for conservation, urging viewers to reflect on their role in preserving our natural world. The stunning cinematography captures the breathtaking beauty of Sri Lanka’s landscapes, showcasing both the rich biodiversity and the pressing realities facing wildlife today.
As humanity’s footprint expands, the series challenges us to rethink our relationship with the environment and the species we share it with. Join the journey of understanding and conservation as we delve into the world where elephants and humans strive for coexistence, ensuring that both can thrive amidst the evolving backdrop of modernity.
This captivating exploration is a testament to the resilience of both the guardians of nature and the wildlife they protect, inviting us all to become stewards of the planet.

Sri Lanka does have the highest man-made artificial reservoir density in the world, and the extensiveness of this network of lakes enabled the survival of the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa Kingdoms for a thousand years. Over the last thousand years ,since the Sinhalese had abandoned this area concentrated on the dry zone, which gave ample time to these giants to feast on plentiful food concentrated around lakes and canals and multiply without any predator, thus making Sri Lanka have the highest elephant density in the world.
Proud of you
Please, PLEASE save these magnificent animals!!!! 😍😍😍
It's a big problem
British solders killed many Elephants back in 1800s – 1900s , just for fun.
New job?
Everyday an elephant dies due to human activity.
Not to mention the 1000s killed during the British ruling. What hypocrite is this 😡😡😡
Prince williams trying to protect wild life but not the children and women of gaza. Why?

i dont think in sri lanka elephants ever will go extinct

Wow! It was great to see His Royal Highness Prince William at early in the video. Perhaps, he is personally taking interest and involved in this project. That'd be wonderful.
It's a commendable initiative to raise awareness! However, I would like to humbly request that Prince William take accountability and pay reparations for the tens of thousands of wild elephants killed by colonial rulers for trophy hunting. I believe it is crucial to make efforts to conserve these magnificent creatures, and that effort should start there.
Just like in Kerala.
Животных жалко, везде эти двуногие
Hats off to all except “HRH”
Please continue your contribution for nature and wildlife.
When British came to Sri Lanka, they wiped out all the tuskers and elephants roamed in hill country.
They kill Elephants in Sri Lanka. This is a hoax . Misleading content. ONLY minority of people love and care for wild animals and strays here.
The government has given permission for farmers to shoot elephants ONSITE .
This government has no remorse for killing animals over here. These so called farmers live on the elephants lands. ( they basically live in forests 🌳) they clear up trees and lands . Elephants homes are destroyed by these men greedy for money and when these elephants go hungry and roam around for food! They shoot these innocent animals on their own property and call it TRESPASSING!!
There is no single food in the forest for these wild animals cause the forest is cleared and trees cut down . These animals then get used to go to nearby roads and villages for food! Then these animals get run over or killed on spot by people who think they are a threat! Its inhumane of them! 65 ELEPHANT DEATHS IN FIRST 50 days of 2025! The railways claim lives of these animals everyday! No remorse no apology no punishment for these evil people!
Railway tracks are the Main causes of elephant deaths. They speed way up than their supposed to go! And some don't stop even if they see these . animals cross the tracks .
Illegal current shock wires are been drawn around villages to SHOCK ELEPHANTS AND THEY DIE INSTANTLY. No punishment ever comes from the government. No help . No resolution .
There will soon be a day these animals will go extinct in sri lanka 🇱🇰 because we as a country failed to treasure protect these true innocent gems .
These rangers are truly risking their lives. Even though elephants are large, they’re hard to spot in the thick jungle. They're fast, smart, and in Sri Lanka, they really are the kings of the jungle. Weapons don’t help much—they often strike from behind. Incredible animals, but also dangerous.
