President Trump’s plan to consolidate power through the use of the unitary executive theory is generating controversy and raising questions about the expansion of executive power in the United States. The Wall Street Journal delves into the legal theory behind Trump’s actions and explores why the Supreme Court may allow for the increased authority of the executive branch.
The unitary executive theory, a popular conservative ideology, is being utilized by President Trump to justify decisions such as the dismissal of thousands of federal workers, the disbandment of entire agencies like USAID, and the supervision of independent regulatory agencies like the FTC and SEC. This theory posits that the President has complete control over the executive branch and can thus make unilateral decisions without interference from Congress or the judiciary.
In the past, the unitary executive theory has been used to varying degrees by past administrations to assert executive authority and push through policy measures. However, Trump’s aggressive use of the theory has sparked concerns about potential abuses of power and undermines the system of checks and balances established by the Constitution.
The Supreme Court, as the ultimate arbiter of legal disputes in the country, may play a crucial role in determining the extent to which executive power can be expanded under the unitary executive theory. The Court’s interpretation of the Constitution and its willingness to uphold or limit the President’s authority will have far-reaching implications for the balance of power between the branches of government.
As the debate over Trump’s use of the unitary executive theory continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the Supreme Court will ultimately rule on the matter. The Wall Street Journal’s in-depth analysis sheds light on the legal theory behind Trump’s consolidation of power and provides valuable insights into the potential implications for the future of executive authority in the United States.

The Torture Memo! It was dumb at the time, and embarrassing now.
Such a biased report
Donald Trump was forced to file for bankruptcy not once, not twice, four times. 1.16 Million Americans died due to Covid negligence but they still voted again for him. Let them now taste what they voted for the next 4 years.
I can't believe the Legislative Branch has power to create "independent agencies" that fall outside of Exectuvie authority. It makes no sense.
Since the Supreme Court said donald convicted felon trump is the only American above the law, the constitution should not be the right tool that this criminal can use now to apply the law, he is the first violator of it, right?
Appalling “the right to do whatever I want as president” 0:14 executive role is to execute the laws. Congress makes. Appalling abuse of power.
America needs a Magna Carta.😊
3 branches created for checks & balances. Yet one mad criminal is controlling all. Shameful 🇺🇸 , allowing a dictator to bully the world. 🌎
What borders on stupidity? Mexico and Canada. 🇨🇦 elbow Canada 🍁 we stand with Ukraine 🇺🇦 , freedom, democracy. Shame on Putin‘s Bestie.
There should be no such thing as an independent agency. All agencies should report to an elected representative. Otherwise who do the voters hold accountable?
Its the second coming of the third Reich
Trump is a liability to the nation
Exactly. It’s in the name “independent agencies”. no one is stopping this power monger? Shame on USA 🇺🇸Shame on Putin‘s Bestie. Dangerous. 1:53
People argue endlessly about world events, Trump, Ukraine, and the economy, but I realized the real battle is within. I used to be the same—frustrated, feeling powerless over the state of the world. Then I read Mind Decoding and saw how much my subconscious was influencing my reality. Once I applied its insights, my focus shifted from fear to growth.. I only wish I had read it sooner
It's called "fascism"
Any questions?
Separation of powers. That’s the thing. That’s the protection needed that bad man, Putin’s Bestie is eliminating. Consolidating all power to himself. 4:32
This dude has it right 4:39 “it is an audacious power grab, cloaked in legalese.” But WILL the Supreme Court stop it? 🙏 sad for you, America. 🇺🇸
A dictator by any other name…
A tyrant.
It seems clear that he wants to destroy the economy so that he can take full control. I understand that some people want a strongman, but most of America does NOT want a KING.
It seems like a lot but there are years of dems messes to clean up and that will be painful for many in the short term but set us up for success in the longer term. That’s what it means to do the hard things. Most won’t appreciate it and complain short term
All this arises from stupid Congressional actions. Independent agencies are not part of the constitution, but so to are ruling making by executive agencies. Pass real laws. Limit executive orders to actual executive agencies and employees. Get rid of the expansive interpretation of federal versus state and individual powers.
So the party that doesnt want big government wants now big government but around one person……cool, someone make that make sense
