The potential purchase of Greenland by the United States under the Trump administration has sparked both intrigue and controversy. President-elect Donald Trump has made it clear that he sees Greenland as a crucial asset for “national security purposes,” citing the island’s vast deposits in rare earths, oil, and gas. However, the logistics behind such a purchase are far from straightforward.
One of the major hurdles that the U.S. would have to navigate is Danish diplomacy. Greenland has been closely tied to Denmark politically and culturally for decades, and any attempt to buy the territory would require negotiations with the Danish government. This could prove challenging, as Denmark may be reluctant to part with Greenland, a territory that holds significant strategic value in the Arctic region.
Furthermore, Greenland itself has been moving towards greater independence in recent years. The Greenlandic government has expressed a desire for more autonomy from Denmark, raising questions about how any potential purchase by the U.S. would be received by the people of Greenland.
Even if a deal were to be struck, it would require approval from Congress. The acquisition of a territory as significant as Greenland would likely face intense scrutiny and debate in the U.S. legislature, adding another layer of complexity to the process.
The idea of using military action to secure Greenland has also been floated by President Trump, further complicating the situation. In addition, the economic implications of such a purchase would need to be carefully considered, as incorporating Greenland into the U.S. could have wide-ranging effects on economic policy and relations with other countries, particularly China and Russia, who also have interests in the region.
Overall, the logistics behind a Trump purchase of Greenland are intricate and multifaceted. As the U.S. continues to explore the possibility of acquiring the territory, it will be important to consider the diplomatic, political, and economic implications of such a significant move.

just another outraging "idea" to distract everyone from his actual problems?!
🚨🇧🇷 I wish the American Media would report on how the Brazilian courts just gave Meta 72 hours for them to explain themselves on how they plan on following Brazilian laws. 🚨🇧🇷
Making smoke so you don’t see him stuffing his pockets with tax dollars, Americans wonder why they aren’t liked generally globally.
A 50 billion dollar purchase of greenland would give $893k to each greenlander.
If I lived in Greenland then I’d vote for that lol
The “supporters” at the Trump Jnr fake meeting in Greenland, were paid, unemployed people used to show so called support.
dont be greedy greenland do the right thing
I forget. Did we vote for buying Greenland?
How to sell a cheap president cheap!
what's the story on Heathers eyebrows?
Time for west to ditch the yanks and join brics.time to start a ditch the dollar campaign.😂
Reading the comments, What is the position of the Greenland government about selling or opening mines to US investors ? I feel like it has more to do with US entreprises having more influence
And the press keeps taking this seriously. These are the ramblings of a MADMAN. Unfortunately, US citizens voted to have a nutjob on the presidency and now the whole world will have to live with the consequences of his actions.
Because of melting ice and snow the arctic is becoming important geopolitically for shipping routes and resources. The US wants to be the one to control that to take the lead over China. Same with Canada's north pole territory and the Panama canal
I’m not sure how and what to comment about this idea.
Denmark gives Greenland over $800 million every year in block grant. Currently there are 57.000 inhabitas on Greenland. I would like to see the USA do that. Greenlanders will become the new Indians, if the USA acquires Greenland.
How does war with allies help lower the cost of eggs and gas?
Lol nobody cares about the polar bear on the flag more than national security
They have no interest in becoming Americans – the US is only great for the rich. They would not want the US healthcare system, horrific food quality and lack of social benefits .
Greenland belonged to Norway(who discovered it in the Viking age) but lost it to Denmark (together with Iceland) in 1814 Kiel Convention.
Usa can protect Greenland better than danes
Trump said he has a concept of a plan.
Someone watched the Greenland movie
he'll never pay for it
When Trump adresses this move, it seems like HE would be buying Greenland, to HIMSELF.
history is not over. These are entirely achievable goals. This is not an idea that should be disregarded, and leftists only sneer at this because they think the Canadian and Greenlandic "identities" should be taken seriously. They are literally just flags that demand taxes, only slightly greater legitimacy to rule than a local sports franchise. Polk was a more important president than FDR or Obama, and yet zoomers don't know his name. People only believe Greenland and Canada should be their own nations because they grew up with them on the map and nothing else. Annexation of new territory is vital for the long-term health of what is essentially an empire. This is only being politicized because a man like Trump is proposing the idea. Which is incredibly sad considering how bi-partisan expansion should be. Imagine if there had been a Roman party in the senate against expansion. The idea of an annexation of Greenland is nothing new either. The Americans annexed Greenland and Iceland during ww2 because of how strategically important they were. They even hanged on to them years after during the cold war for the same reason. The man who bought Alaska from the Russians (also mocked during his day) also was a proponent of annexing Greenland. While we are on the topic are we forgetting that the US ALREADY bought a territory from Denmark? The US virgin Islands weren't always called that.
As a Dane I just want to point out, that you guys elected someone to be president, whom literally don't know how to handle an umbrella. Think about that.
INVASION!!! 56000 PEOPLE IS NO OBSTACLE!!
I’m sorry we don’t need to buy land in America what we need is the deficit to be cut , affordable health care and a lower cost of living we don’t need to buy Greenland
Congrats to WSJ for this amazing video! (irony).
Instead of saying this is a ridiculous situation, they decide to discuss and normalize it… 😅
