Backed by Rwanda, the armed group managed to seize control of most of the eastern provincial capital of Goma, prompting concerns from the United Nations about their advance further south.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in numerous civilians in the DRC being injured and displaced, adding to the humanitarian crisis in the region.
