El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has been gaining popularity in the United States, particularly among members of Trump’s inner circle. Bukele, who is considered one of the biggest right-wing icons in the world, has been making waves with his tough stance on gangs in El Salvador. His crackdown on gang violence has inspired many in the U.S. conservative movement, and he has even been praised by former Congressman Matt Gaetz and tech mogul Elon Musk.
Bukele’s rise to power has been fueled in part by his savvy use of social media, where he has amassed a large following. He has been able to connect with a younger generation of voters and harness their support for his policies. His no-nonsense approach to governing has also appealed to many in the U.S., where he has become a key player in Trump’s mass deportation strategy.
However, as Bukele’s relationship with Trump and his allies deepens, concerns have been growing about the implications of their close ties. Some critics worry that Bukele’s increasing influence in the Trump world could have negative repercussions for both El Salvador and the U.S.
The Wall Street Journal breaks down the reasons behind Bukele’s popularity, his transformation of El Salvador, his use of social media, his ties to the MAGA movement, his influence in the Trump world, and what it all means for the United States. As the relationship between Bukele and Trump continues to evolve, many will be watching closely to see how it impacts both countries in the long run.

Of course, he will accept the prisoner. They’re gonna make a fortune.
we’re paying them the house their own criminals

tax dollars at work
Gates not credible. He is a predator
He is Cartel ! There is a dirty agreement between Trump and Bukele.
True evil
He is of Palestinian origin. Why doesn't he ask Trump for aid for the Palestinians?
Because he has a nice haircut
I would say Bukele is the nessessary evil that was needed to pull a nation that was ruled by local gangs and violence, out of that situation and return peace to the general people. Is he a democratically elected dictator, yes. Does he breaks human rights violations and unethical stuff, yes. But all those "first world problem" things dont matter if the citizens dont have basic needs like safetly and shelter.
He's another looser like Trump!
Great….a wanna be Dictator and a Dictator together in one room just talking about Human Rights violations and violations to the US constitution!.
everyone does not give him credit. he already proved how to make and keep el salvador safe
Thought this was familiar https://youtu.be/WtkI-QAgM6w?feature=shared
MAGA is stupid beyond belief thats why
Hypocrite… your talking with the #1 criminal…
diamond can cut diamond
I am Salvadoran American and I am disgusted by Bukele's actions. These people being sent to El Salvador need due process and he knows it, but he's happy taking the US's money. If these men are found to truly be criminals that is one thing, but the Maryland man deported who is a legal citizen is a real life horror story.
Bukele is not right or left wing, he has put order in a chaotic society and he believes the public spaces and infrastructure should be better than the private, not a right wing or libertarian likable idea
@Traslaverdad @CaozMundial
Oh, is tough-on-crime now considered RIGHT WING according to the Great Wall Street Journal? Is it RIGHT WING to care about the safety of ordinary, law-abiding citizens who have been oppressed by crime gangs for generations?
I feel like I just got hit with a plot twist!
Concern is growing? Where? In the Left Wing Communist WSJ community?
He should be applauded by everyone regarfless of party or ideology
propaganda!
