A recent hit-and-run case took a surprising turn when a missing Apple AirPod played a crucial role in capturing the suspect. 15-year-old Lachlan Nichol was the victim of the hit-and-run, left injured and alone on the road as the driver sped off. However, in the chaos of the accident, one of Nichol’s AirPods became dislodged and ended up inside the suspect’s vehicle.
Thanks to tracking software on the AirPod, police were able to trace its location to a damaged SUV in the area. When they searched the vehicle, they found the missing AirPod hidden under a floor mat, providing them with the crucial evidence needed to link the suspect to the crime.
Peter Swing, the driver responsible for the hit-and-run, was subsequently charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing great bodily injury. This case serves as a reminder of the unexpected ways in which technology can aid law enforcement in solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
