The BC tree fruit growers in the Okanagan Valley have been left reeling after the sudden collapse of their co-op. The news came as a shock to many local farmers who relied on the co-op for support and stability in the industry. The collapse has created a sense of uncertainty and fear among growers who now must navigate the future of their livelihoods without the backing of the co-op.
For years, the co-op has been a pillar of the BC tree fruit industry, providing growers with essential services and resources to help them succeed. Its sudden downfall has left farmers feeling abandoned and unsure of how to move forward. Many are now scrambling to find alternative solutions and partnerships to fill the void left by the co-op’s collapse.
The impact of the co-op’s collapse extends beyond just the individual growers. The entire BC tree fruit industry is now facing a period of disruption and instability as farmers try to adjust to the new reality. The loss of the co-op has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many wondering how they will be able to continue operating without its support.
Despite the challenges and uncertainty facing them, the BC tree fruit growers are a resilient group. They have weathered storms in the past and are determined to find a way through this latest crisis. As they band together to support one another and explore new opportunities for collaboration, there is hope that they will be able to overcome this setback and emerge stronger on the other side.
In the wake of the co-op’s collapse, the BC tree fruit growers are facing a difficult road ahead. But with their determination and perseverance, there is optimism that they will be able to navigate this crisis and build a new path forward for themselves and their industry.

Free market. Only the strong will survive. None of the government's business. Not one single cent of tax payer money should go to subsidizing them. I know this sounds harsh, but it's true.
Food disruption….the BC govt is NOT for the ppl of that province. Prepare accordingly.
People dont buy fruits and vegetables anymore because they taste really bad genetically modified…. 💖
Canada is going downhill 😂
Government and rampant greed and corruption are way out of control in Canada. Food pricing and monopolies are hurting the average Canadian. Sad times to be a Canadian citizen.
The Federal government, as long with the provincial government has created these difficult times
I say Trudeau has something to do with this, all part of the WEF.
This was inevitable. Living in Osoyoos I have observed over the years a lot of the larger farms have decided to do their😮 own sorting and of course that means the packing house has a lot less fruit being sorted at,the packing house. If you don’t believe me just take a look at the very large buildings on some of the farms they are not there housing equipment.
As a final mail in the coffin many fruit farms have been plowing under the trees in favour of vineyards for the wineries. How’s that working out???
If govt can fund and save large corps that contribute little to canada, govt can pick up the needs of bc growers and keep it afloat during these difficult time.
The packing business has been going down the tube for more than 60 years and BCFP was just the last house to fail and no It wasn't sudden but many years of mismanagement and very poor decisions but no worries I'm sure those behind the crash will get good packages
Oh my gosh! Is this what happens when you get the government wanting more profit than the people that actually are on the ground working? They mess in areas that they have no business understanding what farming families go through and the employees that work for them. Don’t they understand that if people don’t eat will get sick and needing now healthcare, or have no jobs and ending up on employment insurance or worse welfare to the possibility of becoming homeless? And while this is happening you have the top businessmen rolling in the dollars from someone else’s back breaking work. This goes for education and healthcare as well, while all our taxes go up and the extreme wealthy get tax breaks when they can actually afford to help the country and all in it, instead of loving their greed.
Turban guy is not Canadian
ahhhh so the son pissed the business away. i see typical
Everything the government touches turns to manure. The government with their excessive spending have driven the price of everything AND weaken the buying power of all Canadians. Look at what is happening. Carbon taxes hitting farmers hardest. Then you have Nitrogen taxes. Then you have added transportation fees. Ask Farmers about the polices past in the last 9 years.
Don't worry, everything is fine and the Government is going to fix it all.
buy canadian from our farmers.
stop imports coming in from other countries.
Prices are too high
We let corpratocracy infect everything, we suffer.
Government Agricultural Policy = Death by a Thousand Cuts.
Every sector of agriculture is under attack.
It is an intentional dismantling of our food independence, our food sovereignty.
But it goes beyond food. Professional associations and unions have also been hijacked and regulated to muzzle and control professionals.
The goal is to tell us what to think, say, eat, and where to sleep.
Get investors and get building.Dont ask the government for anything.Time for people to get together.
Do you have any white people left to interview
At the same time we can't afford buying a kilo of cherries. I tried to buy last week, it was $18$ for a small bag. I had to put it back.
Same thing is happening in Michigan. Hundreds of Cherry growers are destroying their crops with the collapse of the market. Cheap foreign products are causing lost livelihoods. BC is not unique.
We cannot let the bc fruit farmers fall bc fruit is way superior to any other fruit from the states
Do not buy american fruit.
WHOOP DEE DOO. we lose some apples. who eats apples anymore nowdays that theyre 10 bucks a bag. i sure as hell dont
I would love to buy directly from the farmers but they jack their prices up past the store, when it should be cheaper to buy from them. It use to be worth going to the farmers market for good prices once the middle man was cut out
Didn’t this story break on August 2?
Well : If you think ( trudeau ) is going Help ..LOL 😂 , His agenda is well on Path . An agenda that was Developed in the Late 60 s by ( Pierre Trudeau ) in conjunction with the ( W.E.F. ) Known as the ( Club of Rome ) ! WAKE up CANADA , for God Sakes WAKE UP !
I no longer buy fruit that appears perfect due to the appeal coating on them. This coating can not be washed off and can be the cost of cancer.
When farmers are barely surviving and consumers cannot afford the product there is someone in the middle making too much money.
Government needs to audit and regulate food distribution and large retail, not the farms or the consumers.
