FUN FACTS:
Gerard Joling (The Netherlands 1988) was one of the members of De Toppers. Joling left the group on 9 November 2008, and singer Jeroen van der Boom was confirmed as the replacement member on 11 November 2008. Dutch song for Eurovision 2009 was chosen via national final who took place on 1 February 2009. All six competing songs were performed by De Toppers and the winning song, "Shine", was selected by the combination of a public televote (2/3) and the votes of a five-member jury (1/3). At Eurovision 2009, competing in the 2nd Semi Final, The Netherlands received 11 points (10pts from Albania and 1 point from Denmark) finishing in 17th place. The Netherlands failed to qualify in final for the 5 consecutive years.
Before representing The Netherlands as a member of De Toppers, Gordon Heuckeroth attempted to represent his country on two occasions:
In 1990 with the song "Gini", finishing in 9th place.
In 2003 with the song "I'll Be Your Voice", finishing in 2nd place.
In 2017, Jan Smit (host of Eurovision 2021) became a member of De Toppers.
Jeroen made a cover of the danish song "Believe Again" performed by Brinck at Eurovision 2009 in Dutch language, the song is called "Weer geloven".
Jeroen's son Luuk took part in the Dutch National Final for Junior Eurovision 2019 as a member of the group Moves!
