The ‘troubled teen’ industry in the USA | DW Documentary
In the USA, teenagers with behavioral problems often end up in re-education centers. These function like prisons, isolating the young people from the outside world. The harsh educational measures sometimes end in death.
This documentary sheds light on the extreme methods used in re-education facilities in the USA. These include isolation, torture and humiliation, as well as something called “assault therapy”. These practices, which have little or nothing to do with traditional psychological treatments, aim to “reform” individuals through discipline and suffering. The adolescents sent there by their parents are between 8 and 18 years old. These parents report being overwhelmed by their adolescent children, citing problems from learning difficulties to substance abuse, social media addiction, anxiety disorders, depression or a sexual orientation they find unacceptable.
These private facilities do a lucrative business. In the hope that their children will get better, families spend thousands of dollars every month. Some even mortgage their homes to pay for their children to be part of these programs. Their children, on the other hand, can suffer lifelong damage there. There have also been cases of suicide. The film features young adults who have managed to escape the prison school system and parents who realized too late how cruel this system is.

No credentials in mental health, only in business… Yeah, America, shit hole country, as usual!
As someone on the autism spectrum and who has suffered ADHD and depression, when I heard kids like I was being round up in these, it hurt.
Paris Hilton went to one of the so-called therapeutic boarding schools in Utah in the 90s.
Rules and regulations should be followed.
It is a factory to make troubled people, who ever came with idea is now a bilioner, it is a business to create job opportunities for the troubled adults on the younger generations suffering, what a dream country is this.
The truth only comes to light because we have cameras and ways to spread the evidence.
The problem starts with the parents putting their kids in sich Institutions. What loving parent would do such a thing. And then the "kidnapping"-method of sending the kids off. Even more insane.
Wars inside this country are more damaging than the wars outside of it.
Deep inside 40% of Americans are Nazi’s. Proven by how many stand by Trump.
Well atleast Big pharma wont be able to profit from them i hope
Passed a FEDERAL LAW when the federal corporation is behind the school 😂
This is all preplanned by these crazy capitalists in power. First, they make laws that give kids more control over their parents when parents can barely control their kids without being threatened with ''I'm gonna call the police/social''. Secondly, these kids run out of their parent's control or get taken away by the govt to further destroy them, ending up on the streets full of prostitution and hard drugs, which they know how they are distributed. Thirdly, they created this kind of confinement to further extort the taxpayer's money, turning the kids further into being more bad eggs. This problem is tied up to the people in power.
All they need to be healed is a environment without Radiation pollution chemical and poison free foods and water
goofy ahh americans
Shocking stuff. Not sure if it should even be shocking when you're looking at the country with one of the most scandalous incarceration systems, a cult-like addiction to "private alternatives" of what should be public institutions, and an utterly violent institutional culture.
To everyone in the chat that has been in this situation. Just know that I stand with you in the endeavor of bringing these hellish places to light.
The main issue I keep seeing across the board is that kids need attention from their parents. People want to have kids but they don't want to put in the work
How long for masturbation if peeing takes 1 minute and pooping 3 minutes?
in a capitalistic society; everyone and everything is an industry
What type of families send their children to such like this school
Trafficano con il Fentalyn per accontentare le case farmaceutiche e mantenere degli stipendi
How is this child abuse even legal?
10 years i spent in residential treatments its not something i would wish on my enemys
All the medications they've all been on prior to them being there should be strictly recorded imo. And exactly what they are then given while there. 🙁
Heartbreaking
Dont spare the rod
I'm glad this is being called out, I'm sure many people still deal with the effects of being abused there
Take it positive this a good way to transform boys to men and install discipline, unless excess power is used when disciplining the kid, this seems a good thing.
"Dependancies" lists everything that makes a teen a teen.
I, myself have been abused in "troubled teen" schools myself; unfortunately.
this is sad
but this is a normal high school in a third world
They do the same with DUIs. Few attorneys will fight the false charges due to their nature and it's become a huge business as the courts force people to buy substance tests, rehab classes, interlocks, etcetera.
Yayy🎉🎉 One more wonderful DW documentary.. ❤ absolutely loved it.
Not Surprised Many of these Prison Schools are in Utah. Mormons and the Church of Latter Day Saints are Extremely Controlling and Bigoted.
This country needs to start supporting our children the right way! Not putting into some place to suffer!
A $69B a year industry based on 100,00 children? 200,000 children? That's $700,000 to $350,000 per child? There's actually someone paying for that?
I couldn't get far into this before it just became unbelievable. Maybe if I had stayed longer it would have made sense but you lost me at about 4 minutes.
got a little hateful here at the minute 7:00–8:30
I was in Anclote Manor! Known as zThe Horrir of Tarpon Springs! Florida
It's a country with a prison industry, so a "troubled teen industry" is just a long-term supplier. Because mental health care and support for struggling parents is too much for the "land of the free"…
Funded by religious fundamentalists
Just heartbreaking.
