I have to ask this….. what are those two tubular looking things that stick out of the forward hull rectangular portholes? …..the ones forward of the two round portholes.
The phone said 5:16 when he worked on the water filter.
Nicki, what brand is that cute final fleece with the flower cuffs. You must put it in your product line.
Tony & Susan here, 20.38 min into the video, that profile is just great. Totally my style.
Great video! It is so wonderful to see you back on your own boat! I hope that the rest of the commissioning goes well and look forward to seeing your sea trials. I do hope that you consider stabilizers as your first big upgrade. Good luck!
Next time a valve handle is in your way, you can just take the handle off via the little nut. Also general best practice for plumbing – open and close valves slowly and smoothly. This prevents rapid pressure differentials from stressing joints, seals, fixture packings…etc. It's an easy way to be nice to your plumbing system(s)
Great video. Watching 👀 from Spain. Merry Christmas. See you next week.
it is just our lingering PTSD, this boat will be great (until you go back to sailing)
The episode is great, I love seeing everything, and "spending time with you".
I hope tp meet you two some day.
I kind of missed a lot of episodes…..what happend to catamaran life style ?
Wow… this boat is a dream!
I congratulate you on an incredible find.
I dont know how you can afford it. But wow.
As for a single engine, I would use an aviation analogy. I'm much more comfortable with a single engine turboprop aircraft than with a twin engine piston aircraft, because turbine engines are far more reliable. The technicians here seem to have the same opinion of the engine on this boat.
You need a 3/8 to 1/2 inch socket adapter.. Those plugs are 1/2inch or 3/8inch and made to be opened with a ratchet driver.. The thinghy that goes on the clicky round head wrenchy things…. I will keep adding to this comment as I see things I can help with.. Diesel can grow algae if not treated before sitting.. You have about 6 months with diesel if it is not treated.. Now, I am not an expert but this comment is meant to help you educate yourselves in storing and keeping your fuel in tip top condition. Adding questions you need to find answers to. Also, Boating is about being prepared, not being redundant.. Have the wear items on board. Make a list of all wear items and consumables, get them, and go!! If you video taped the entire service you need to go and edit it and label it for future times when you need the resource of seeing skilled techs.. Be sure you video everything you pay someone to do so you have it for reference.
does that hatch open without power
So glad things are going smoothly 🎉🎉❤❤
Who needs kids when you have little baby wrenches!!! 😊❤❤❤
Carry at least two cases of racors
Also, my guess is there’s another lower point in the diesel storage tank. Pretty common practice to bottom drain diesel tanks everyday. Would t make sense to put a drain in a difficult location
Ah, the ADHD bent towards catastrophizing. We all do it lol. When’s the shoe going to drop. Something really bad is going to happen because it always does. I feel you Jason. Glad she’s coming together so well overall though. It’ll be ok. You’ll both be so happy once you’re on the water and moving. This will NOT be like the last boat that shall not be mentioned.
As a former navy diesel mechanic I would have got with a kaity or nordhavn just for the engineering layout on those boats
Glad you guys are back on a boat
2:15 The thread stuff is hemp. It's usually used in conjunction with a lubricant, e.g. vaseline, a.k.a. petroleum jelly. If you tighten up that plug without it, it will seize over time! (Don't ask me how I found out… ;-))
…ok, nvm, teflon tape will do as well. 🙂
Good job!
I’m so looking forward to your future adventures in this boat!
well I would not take their word for it an you are well aware the alternator can go and Volvo pulleys for the alternator belt can go as well, those are 2 things you should have on board .
what you need is a system to drive the shaft like the boat you were on or a chain driven system hooked up to the drive shaft which can be established like the big yachts have this can be electric motors or they can be run by a hydraulic system.
9:08 such a tiny woman. And an even tinier man!! Haha
You need lots of help to go thru that boat. You are not competent.
It sure looks to me like you guys are doing all the right things. Going through all systems at the dock, and educating yourself at the dock and identify what spar parts you will need to carry and being familiar with the service. Will all pay dividends when a problem arise when you're not at the dock. The $$$ spent with Volvo service was a good investment on many levels toward a smoother future.
😎
Love the boat videos. You two do them with such style . Looking forward to your adventures next year.
Always interesting when you are discovering what's what. John 5:24
Are you going directly to the Nort Sea via Amsterdam? Or first the Markenmeer/ IJselmeer? Loosdrechtse Plassen are a bit small for a true sea trail. I have sailed on it in a Valk (6.5meter wooden sailboat) and even than its not large.
I am so happy you guys are on a new adventure in a motor yacht. Definitely looking forward to new content.
2300 euro well spent! 😊
I kinda see it coming – you're going encounter bad weather, be really worried and the boat will just keep going "weather? What weather?"…
Jason, you need 8 point sockets for removing that square head plug. Also, just crack open those 1/4 turn ball valves and wait for the pressure to equalize before you fully open them. Made me wince watching you throw them open…
Great call getting Volvo in for a service. The more oil changes you do early in the engines' life, the longer they last, especially if it has been sitting with little use. Surprised the fuel was clean as Europe likes their biofuels.
I recommend my customers to change the starter batteries every 3-4 years. No matter the condition. It has to work every time…..
Im so happy to see that he's got his dishwasher!!
i have a single engine motor cruiser, and its been great ,, but just going past needles, in the solent ( south uk ) the engine stalled in a really awkard palce with high currents and rocks ! a small bit of silicone some how got into the fuel feed and blocked at the fuel filter input. the boat started drifting to over falls and sych where would of been a bit nasty, so i am adding a small electric motor so i can at least main stain boat direction, and 2-3 knots . yes i could of dropped anchor but a really deep spot ,, i managed to sort the problem very quickly due to my very simple fuel system and priming bulb , and i was on my way in 5 min, but the average joe may of had a bad time.
so one or two fwd facing thrusters ? electric ? could be cool even for mooring. could run on the generator.
🤟💙🌎🤝✌️💚🤠🤙
Sure the service call seemed big but now you've seen how it's done. And you can probably get a boat specific toolset from either your boat manufacturers or have a marine supply company price one out to meet your boat's specs.
Wow that was some sentence began with And plus four verbs.
Good luck with your new home.
Glad to see you all got this boat. When listening to others unless they are a mechanic or have complete knowledge of something. Listen to them, but listen to the ones that do it for a living the better information input. Good luck to you all.
06:00 Oh! You have a minion on board!
You guys are cluless…
Great video. This boat was built & not used much. I was expecting the gas & oil to be good. As it was. I don’t think this boat will be a lemon. Let’s go.
OY! knipex cobra are no joke 😀
Those pieces from the fuel filler are thread sealant.
I would have haggled on the price…. the service is almost the same as on a 2MW gensets I service….
As others have said it was money well spent to have the professional Volvo techs look everything over after sitting for so long. Honestly the price for service was reasonable. To do oil change and fuel filters on my company Dodge truck with the Cummins diesel it cost $800 at the dealer. Hopefully in the stuff in the Philippines is all of your good tools, if the Volvo needs any special tools I'd get them now.
Great videos guys, love the videos. As a plumber for 32 years and dealing with lots of water filtration get a tube of plumbers grease for your O-rings on your water filters to prevent drying cracking and leaking.
I know you've been wondering as much as we have, does this boat actually work? After watching, do you feel the same way we do? Are waiting for the other shoe to drop?
