This Village Has No Roads – Only Canals and Boats
Welcome to Giethoorn, a picturesque village in the Netherlands where the absence of roads transforms daily life into a tranquil journey across shimmering canals. In this enchanting place, the typical hum of traffic is replaced by the gentle lapping of water against wooden boats, making it feel like a scene straight out of a fairy tale.
In the video, join Jason and Nikki Wynn as they explore this unique locale, where 2,800 residents navigate through a network of 180 bridges via boats. You’ll discover how this car-free paradise was formed centuries ago, creating an idyllic atmosphere that beckons travelers seeking peace and beauty.
During their journey, the Wynns share their behind-the-scenes adventures, including a spontaneous stop during a layover in Amsterdam while en route to Uganda. They spent two unforgettable days immersed in the charm of Giethoorn, capturing the serene landscape and engaging with the local culture.
As you watch, expect fascinating insights about the village’s history, including how it got its name and the impacts of tourism on this beloved destination. Dive into an exploration of beautiful parks, quirky encounters with nature, and the stories that make Giethoorn a rare gem.

Your wardrobe choices are always great! Flowers matching flowers. Cheers from Toronto!
Great video, love it when you two do this type of show. ❤❤
Needs alligators.
You two out did yourselves with this stunning video, WOWZA! I can't believe you guys haven't been offered your own travel show by now, you're the best in the business by far!!! Really enjoyed this one, well done, so stunningly beautiful, thanks for taking us along!!!
Are we going to get a time frame as to when we get to see you in a new boat. (Just asking).
Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks
Love it! It’s funny that the town’s name has a double meaning. I’m currently in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. I haven’t learned their history yet, but I bet it’s interesting as well. In any case, it’s definitely not as charming as where you are. Thanks for taking us along! ❤❤
Bucket list item for sure
Thank you again for a beautiful beautiful town. You go visit the best places and you also educate us without educating us if you know what I mean. I know y’all are just taking your time not rushing getting another boat. I think that’s great. Find what really fitsand there you go. You have curiosity again. Have fun. Enjoy your travels. Anticipating your trip to Uganda because I know your photography will do it justice. Again, thank you for this visit to the Netherlands.
..wait.. Uganda? 🤨
Let's give another etymology for Giethoorn.😅 Giet means pour, like in pour me a drink. And hoorn means horn. It's a viking thing.🤣
You saying it's a bit chilly out while I'm watching this in Houston in July! (95 out!)
Very interesting place
Wow, that's a cool village! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us Jason and Nikki! Safe travels!
Nice to see you guys in my home country. I hope you enjoyed Amsterdam.
Thanks for another amazing episode!
Thank you! Great video!
Geese mate for life .
Maybe the name is really great goat horn, but it really doesn't matter, it's a really cool place, but like Nikki I'm not sure I would want to live there. I guess the up side is I could go fishing from my front porch. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Seeing your last video I was wondering if you have looked at any Nordhavens. They are in your price range and a large family community where you have help with any problems from other owners nonmatter where you go. A 55 is probably in your range but you can get into a 40 for around 300k.
fantastic little town. Thanks for sharing and can't wait for Uganda.
I can only imagine what the HOA's are like there 🙂. I suspect there aren't any, it's just their culture to keep everything looking as nice as it does, and that helps the tourism as well. I'll have to put this on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Any thoughts on buying RR2? afaf
Luv it! You two are living what most dream of? You only get one shot at life right, so why not live it? Stay blessed ya crazy kids.
The peat digging is the way the Norfolk Broads were created, on the other side of the North Sea.
Whow you guys where lucky that it was that quite … normally bumper to bumper with boats … but still a lovely town where I used to go on Holliday in the summer
😍 wow thank you for sharing!
Beautiful until you get that once in a lifetime experience where heaven becomes hell and you find yourself underwater.
That was a delight. You two are so good at the travelogue format. Thanks again for this Sunday morning treat. Bon voyage.
Jason?!?! "Negative" one foot "below" sea level, would be a foot above sea level… you did the double negative mixup thing…
What a beautiful little village I know you had a wonderful time. Good luck with your new adventures and also looking for a new boat.
Welkom!
Beautiful, relaxing video! 🥰 Love the Mark Wiens shout-out! 😆❤️
Parade of homes, Netherlands style.
Thanks for sharing.
The beer had been boiled and fermented and was safe to drink long before the water was treated and safe to drink, for breakfast there was small beer (0.5 to 2.5%)
Have you ever seen a community like this before? How many electric lawnmowers do you think end up in the canal each year? 🫣
