If Weight Loss Feels Impossible, This is Why (The Scale is Rigged)
In the enlightening video “If Weight Loss Feels Impossible, This is Why (The Scale is Rigged),” Dr. Eric Berg, a seasoned nutrition expert with over 30 years of experience, uncovers why obsessing over the scale may hinder your weight loss journey. He outlines 11 reasons to abandon daily weigh-ins, emphasizing that fluctuations in weight—often caused by factors like water retention, hormonal changes, and even muscle gain—can lead to unnecessary stress and frustration, ultimately amplifying cortisol levels that sabotage progress.
Dr. Berg explains how factors like poor sleep, medication side effects, and unhealthy eating habits, including high sugar and carbohydrate intake, can obstruct your weight loss efforts. Instead of fixating on the scale, he encourages viewers to measure their health through more reliable metrics such as waist-to-height ratios and insulin levels.
Ultimately, the video promotes a paradigm shift: focus on health first, and weight loss will naturally follow. By ditching the scale and prioritizing overall well-being, you can achieve lasting results and true wellness. Tune in to gain invaluable insights into a healthier approach to weight management.

Scale obsession is not helpful for weight loss. The rise in cortisol from scale anxiety alone is enough to stifle your progress!
Here are 11 reasons why you shouldn’t weigh yourself:
1. Water weight
Some people can lose up to 11 pounds of water weight in just 2 days! Initial water weight loss can cause unrealistic expectations. Most people only lose 1 to 2 pounds per week.
2. Salt
Salty foods can cause you to retain fluid, especially if you’re consuming them with sugar.
3. Hormones
A woman’s menstrual cycle can often cause weight-loss fluctuations of around 3 to 7 pounds. A rise in cortisol can also prevent weight loss.
4. Location of fat
The worst type of fat is visceral fat, which accumulates around the organs. If you don’t see weight loss right away, you could be losing some of the more dangerous types of fat first.
5. Muscle loss or gain
Losing muscle isn’t healthy! Your weight may be decreasing, but it could also be accompanied by serious side effects. Similarly, muscle weighs more than fat, so you won’t see weight loss if you’re building muscle.
6. Myxedema
This type of fat is often found in people with hypothyroidism and is difficult to eliminate with diet and exercise alone.
7. Poor sleep
One week of poor sleep can increase insulin resistance! Poor sleep leads to snacking, increased visceral fat, lower testosterone levels, and higher cortisol and stress levels.
8. Ozempic
People lose weight with Ozempic, but typically regain it when they discontinue use. Around 20% to 40% of this weight loss is attributed to muscle loss.
9. Microdamage from exercise
Overtraining breaks down your muscles. Edema and swelling can cause your weight to increase after exercise.
10. Medication
Medications such as calcium channel blockers can cause weight gain.
11. Constipation
Fiber intake and constipation can affect the number on the scale.
Stop weighing yourself and focus on these healthy weight-loss tips instead:
1. Waist-to-height ratio
2. Fasting insulin
3. Appetite decreases
4. Tiny amounts of carbs can block fat burning
5. Fix insulin resistance
Insulin resistance is the root cause of many chronic diseases. Fixing it is the key to getting healthy and losing weight.

How do you fix sleep ive tried everything including your supplements still can't sleep
I still don’t understand, if you are loosing pericardial or visceral fat, why won’t it show on the scale? It has to show eventually, no?
@Drberg , are you not a fan of the Hume scale or others like it ? That tell you so much ?
I agree in general, and I never used to weigh myself. Got weighed before surgery in '93 and I was 84kg ( 185 lbs )/ When I stopped my alcohol abuse in '22 I was 111kg ( 244 lbs ) I wanted to give my poor liver a chance, so I went on to the best diet I could think of, and then found this channel. I have been weighing myself regularly, just to keep track. I am now back down to 85 kg and feel so much better, with no more back and knee pain. I'll probably stop weighing myself now, no alcohol, no unsaturated fat or starch or sugar ( well, apart from my guilty pleasure, potatoes ).
I lost 14 pounds in a month and I was quite lean already by then.
I do it once a week
Another thing to do is avoid mirrors.
Scales are for weighing meat, they are not gauges of health.
Thank you for health information !
I weigh myself everyday. No stress. I need to keep in control.I took my measurements recently too.
He wrote OzemPic but says OzemBic. So I'm wondering how to pronounce it now.
How did you fix her sleep? I can’t sleep either
So, can I tell my doctor not to weigh me?
I can measure my weight by how my clothes fit, including my shoes. I can't eat fast food or most restaurant food. The food sits in my stomach waiting for something. Home cooked food feels satisfying and digests easily. I used to consider Chick-fil-A digestable but even they have changed.
my weight fluctuates 3-4 lbs a day. I goto sleep weighing 205, wake up 201-202.
Thank You!!!! My Mantra for Decades

I love to weigh myself.
Two or three drops of Lugos Iodine three or four times a week helps your metabolism.
Absolutely right…all those things…but still I do weigh myself a few times in a row every couple of months. I think it is funny how wrong the scale can be, but it still gives some idea about how things are…as long as you consider everything he says here. ONLY Dr. Berg brings these important things to light…so grateful.
Tawakkul works far better than your imagination.
Dont weigh myself during the holiday season. Say less😂😂
Well articulated 👍
Explain this: without a lot of boring details, I became ill with several symptoms. I started a healthy whole food diet and the weight started falling off. I went from 250# to 180# in approximately 8 months. When my weight loss stoped @ 180# the weight loss reversed while maintaining the same lifestyle and diet. I gained 10# in about 3 weeks and it stopped. I switched to Mostly meat and feel better but the weight never moves, which is ok for me. I found it strange how I gained 10# and it holds steady as a rock. As a side note I have been in Ketosis for 2 years now. With the exception of hip and thumb pain I feel 110% better than when I was ill, praise the Lord
Intestine lubrication work out
What about chicken liver?
Mixture of cocao and greek yogurt
Mix white sugar with cinnamon
Mixture of water and cardimon powder
Himalayan salt
👏👏👏👏👏👏💞🌹
I think there is also the flip side to that – when my weight was too down due to some nutrition issues I have accelerated that loss through stress just by watching my weight very closely. I had to stop watching my weight and focus on how and what eat first and my weight rapidly bounced back and stays there now.
I lost 25lbs in less than 2 weeks with OMAD and a calorie deficit, no muscle loss. I have never had more compliments in my entire life and I was only 215lbs before the diet.

Wow Doc. It’s like you can read my mind. I’ve been fasting with a strict diet since this January, almost a year. I’ve lost a little over 100 lbs since I feel great. But recently I’ve started a heavy lifting routine taking 60grams of protein along with eating extra protein with my meals. I’ve gained about 10 lbs of weight since I’ve started lifting. I know it’s not muscle weight. Watching this video helps me understand why I gained some weight. I’m not stopping doing what I am, that’s for sure. Thank you for everything. Happy holidays to you and your family.
Awesome sauce
I disagree, I have made losing weight an adventure. Yes I weigh myself every day, I use it to see how short term trends and doing things like sauna whirlpool effect. I hit my weight goal of 195, lost 30 pounds in 14 month. Now I want to maintain and use the same diet exercise and weighing to help me.
11:00 “You’re full of…I didn’t tell her what she was full of” 😂😂😂! This was top tier Dr. Berg 😅!
🙏🏻✅ 👏👏👏
I used to weigh myself daily, but now I focus on how I feel. Dietornia's balanced nutrition helped me lose 11lbs in 3 weeks.
