Two loggers have been killed by bow and arrow after allegedly encroaching too far into land inhabited by the Mashco Piro tribe in the Peruvian Amazon. The tribe, the largest uncontacted tribe on the planet, has lived on the land for years, facing a history of massacres and enslavement. With a population of just over 750 people, the Mashco Piro’s habitat and livelihood are increasingly threatened by the encroachment of loggers in the surrounding area.
In an interview with Teresa Mayo, Researcher and Advocacy Officer at human rights organization Survival International, it was emphasized that the land of the Mashco Piro tribe must be protected. The tribe’s survival and way of life are at risk as they face encroachment from outside forces.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by indigenous tribes in the Amazon region and the urgent need to protect their land and rights. The Mashco Piro, like many other indigenous communities, are fighting to preserve their culture, identity, and way of life in the face of ongoing threats and encroachment.
It is crucial for authorities and organizations to work together to ensure the protection of the Mashco Piro tribe and their land. Efforts must be made to respect their rights and autonomy, and to prevent further incursions and violence that threaten their existence. The story of the Mashco Piro tribe highlights the importance of recognizing and supporting the rights of indigenous communities around the world.

“We all need wood, why don’t we just take it from there?” — I don’t know, maybe because it’s not your land or your wood?
I’m glad the reporter threw the wood question at her. It demonstrates that she’s used to an echo chamber as she was so taken aback and unable to answer. I do support her cause, I do want these people left alone and the virgin rainforest intact. The professional advocates for the cause need to get used to basic questions that they should easily refute.
The stand your ground law 😂
THE OG prime directive
"…(L)argest uncontacted tribe…?" How did they survive "massacres and slavery" without being contacted?
